Teamspeak quality

Hi there,

I was just wondering if Teamspeak's quality was limited by that of the microphone that is recording or the bandwidth that it allows (as a whole or specific servers?), as I assume that a better quality microphone will require more bandwidth?

However, these are just my assumptions, please do correct me if they're wrong. I'm looking for a new microphone for TS but do not want to invest if it's just going to be wasted if the program can't take advantage of it.

If it can however, I wouldn't mind some suggestions! Please see my rig below to see what sound setup I have so far.

Which version of Teamspeak?

There are a few variables, which might be controlled at the server side. Bandwidth or Codec might be limited by the server provider, you can set the codec on the client side as far as I can remember but if it's restricted or limited on the server end that will take priority.

How much are you thinking of spending on a mic? What are the uses? If it's just for talking while gaming then I wouldn't spend loads on a mic. I've gamed with people who use a £5 mic on TS and the sound quality has been plenty good enough.

I see. I will have to check the version number and codecs when I get home as I am at work now.

The microphone will only be used for TS, vent and skype. I can allow £25 but like you said, if it's just for the aforementioned then a cheaper one will probably be the best option.

I am currently using a speedlink (?) mic that cost me roughly £5ish and it's been fine but recently developed a fault where it will distort pretty badly until I adjust it slightly. It only happens every so often but it's a little annoying.
