Few days ago, members of 4chan community visited Valve's offices in order to congratulate Mr. Newell's 50th birthday, and once they've met him, they've managed to ask him a bunch of interesting questions.
Although it was rumored that Valve has been working on Source 2 engine for multiple times, now, according to the following video, Mr. Newell finally confirms it!
When asked the following: “Is Valve potentially already working on a new engine? Source 2? Could or… could not be?”, Gabe replied: “We've been working on Valve's new engine stuff for a while, we're probably just waiting for a game to roll it out with.”
Also it is important to know that Gabe confirmed that it will be a brand new engine, not an extension to the original Source engine that debuted with Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source back in 2004.
What game is going to feature Source 2 Engine, noone knows, but what is known is that Valve abbandoned the development of Stars of Blood, a space pirate game that noone knows much about, and as it seems, it will stay just like that.
