Although even for servers this is a lot of power draw and heat, which is why i feel Nvidia's solution is more saturate-able..

I would guess pricing will also play a role.

1 GPU vs. 2 GPUs...

This thing wont be used like the K20 will be. This is way too impractical for most situations probably.

AMD's desperate attempt at beating Tesla K20X on specs for double precision performance. But still Nvidia has the better real world solution and its more elegant as its a single GPU and draws much lesser power.

For servers, pricing is not as important as in the consumer market. Compability, performance, performance/watt, support, etc are more important.

Nvidia did the same thing though with their Tesla K10 (2x GK104). wink.gif

They used it as a stopgap since the GK110 was not ready and did not have a new product for over a year.
Once again...

Right. This isn't really AMD's answer to GK110. They'll be answering with their next high end chip.

Speaking of HPC, where's Intel's MIC? Shouldn't it be showing up by now?

I was just about to post the same thing. The main reason I don't support AMD is because of their power draw. I run my GPU 24/7 for folding. I will break the bank with over 100W differences for something I do for free.
