Critique my build - $600 budget build

Thread Starter
Hi all. I'm building a CPU for my boy for xmas. I have about $600 I want to spend. I don't need a hard drive or CD drive. I really don't need a case but found a case psu combo for the same price as a psu and it looks much cooler than my old Antec sonata II. So here is my build. I need windows and a keyboard and mouse as well. This will push me about $50 over budget but I think I can still swing that. Thoughts?? My biggest concern is whether or not the PSU in the case will be enough...

Let me know. Thanks! BTW, any idea why my wish lists at NewEgg aren't showing up in the public section?

I would keep whatever case it is you have sitting around and spend the 50 dollars on a good PSU, something like:

honestly thats a pretty bad build, why would you go with Athlon II X4? why not Phenom II x4? :/ l3 cache + better o/cer depends on where you are i guess but the local ncix in canada had it for $75 + taxes in canada. I would not cheap out on Motherboard, CPU, and PSU those are the most important imo and why are you buying those games ? :i didnt do the calculations but is aw you put the price in there so i assume that youre buying them

(as ive celarly learned my lesson about my own mobo and psu tongue.gif )

Yea, I wouldn't mind doing that, but the front connectors on my Antec case have a short that causes the whole system to suddenly die every once in awhile. How are APevia or Raidmax PSU's?

You might want to think about an APU build with a 7670 that will crossfire with the APU. This should be attainable in this price range and would give you a newer platform that will have better longevity.

I blew 2 of them 480 watt Logisys in 6 months back in 2010, Then I bought a good Antec and I am still using it 3-4 builds later.

APevia or Raidmax PSU's are both flaming bricks..

Please go corsair, or Antec on your build, I have had a few of raidmax and apevia PSU's fry on my clients
