A good day to everyone! I have a question I'd very much appreciate some feedback on.
I have done video card OCing, I know what OCing is so I'm not totally clueless! However, I've never attempted CPU overclocking before, simply because I've had no need to do it. But earlier today I ordered a new Radeon HD 7950, and now I want to start cranking up the MHZ on my Phenom II x945 to ease the bottleneck until I can upgrade my mobo and processor (I might wait for the new intel chips coming up Q1 2013 (Forgot their name
)
I've looked up some info regarding my motherboard (Gigabyte 880GM-UD2H) and based on xd_1771's helpful post in this thread discovered that extensive overclocking with my current motherboard may be dangerous.
I am a software kind of guy, I know very little about electronics, so my question is: If I happen to push the voltage too high and the motherboard melts, is there a danger that other components will melt along with it? I'm okay with the mobo dying, I'm not okay with my brand new €300 video card dying with it.
Thank you for your time and valuable feedback!
