Making my own 2d rpg, recommendation?

Hi Guys,

I want to makes my own traditional style 2d rpg a la genesis and snes. I don't have any programming knowledge, would you guys recommend a language? Or do you think I would be better off with something like rpg maker? Are you able to sell games made with rpg maker?

Which languages have you programmed with in the past. Which language is such a general question. If your going to be selling the game then I suggest using RPG maker to make a quick prototype of the game you have in mind and then showing it to friends and family to get feedback on your idea. Then you can select a language and make a working version of the game.

I recommend learning C# language and then XNA framework.

RPG Maker would probably be fine if you're just wanting a 2D RPG. If you want something extremely custom then I agree with the post above mine, C# and XNA. You'll need a few months of solid programming before really making an extensible 2D game that could be sold, in my opinion, so you can understand things like algorithms and partitioning, things you need to make a game perform well.
