Help with coil whine

Hello all,

I have a corsair AX850 and I have a problem. it has some sort of coil whine but it doesn't happen all of the time. When I first heard it I instantly though it was my gpu but it isn't. a good example of when it happens is on steam. when I am on the front store page, if I start scrolling up and down the page I can hear the coil whine quite loudly. when I stop scrolling and make it still, I don't hear it at all. When I load up the game dishonored I can hear the whine during the loading screens but when I am in the actual game I don't hear it at all.

It happens a lot on reddit or on the ncix site when I scroll the page. When my browser is loading images or when my mouse goes over something that is using flash it happens.

I switched out my 570 and put in an msi 560ti and it still happens. I can hear it really loudly when I put my ear up to the back of my psu so it is my power supply for sure.

Should I RMA it? or is this a common occurrence and I shouldn't worry about it? the best example would be the steam thing. it is super loud when I scroll the steam page but then when i stop scrolling it stops whining. I instantly though it was a gpu problem because of this but my gpu is quiet. Can a gpu cause the psu to whine?

Thanks

nevermind I got it fixed. There was a loose connection in the wall socket and now the sound is barely audible so you can delete this thread now biggrin.gif
