WD External 500GB MyBook (old)

So I cant find the Power supply for this guy, the one I thought was it, doesnt power it up, instead, I press On button, the Light goes Green,m and turns off instantly.

Has anyone any experience with opening this things up?

Looking at it there does Not appear to be any Screws etc, nothing holding it together so Unless someone has some nifty first hand experience on this, Im gonna most likely break this thing apart until I can throw the drive in my sig rig thumb.gif

Anyone with info?

Yep. You pretty much have to break it. Just pry it open by the edges. Careful of the plastic. Gave me a nasty scratch.

Wow, it isn't a standard 12v connection? I can use the same power plug across all of my other external HDD, but those ones must have a different voltage, which is weird, but knowing WD and their externals, things can get weird on theirs. I've seen their 2.5" external HDDs with proprietary boards on them that only has USB on it, no SATA.

To get it open, hammer method is not recommended. biggrin.gif

In reality though, you might need a flathead screw driver that you can fit in between the seams of the casing to pry it apart. I think all of these are just snap together, nothing else holding it. Like what was said, be careful on not to cut yourself.

Had been using the flat head trying to pry it apart for a while, then I realized that this thing is way past warranty, so I stopped being gentle with it, turns out there is a Screw through the side that keeps you from opening it, but the Screws are hidden under a layer of Paint, NJ WD, really fooled me lol

so I got the enclosure off, unscrewed tons of things, little boards and stuffs, got the drive out , plugged into my PC, and Viola! Runs flawlessly.

Nothing psecial on it, but it does have my old backup of MP3's which I was only kind of sort of looking for and years of rediculous pcitures that i have found onlien and saved to the drive, gotta love some of the rediculous crud I saved ^.^
