M4A89TD PRO And A FX-6100/FX-8320 Test Results

Ok. This is my test rig for this.
CPU : FX-6100 and FX-8320
CPU Cooler : H100
Mobo : M4A89TD PRO
Bios : Beta 3017-3029 on the FX-6100 and beta 3029 on FX-8320
Video Card : HD6950 2gb
Memory : OCZ DDR3 2000 9-9-9-24-1T 1.65v
HDD : VelociRaptor WD6000HLHX 600GB

Test Results on the FX-6100
1) Bios 3017 will not see the 6100 and 3027-3029 will.
2) The 6100 speed will throttle all the time even at stock speed and I can't get stable. I disable all the normal stuff for ocing.
3) CPU temp is under 40c all the time, so it not the temp on the cpu that is throttling it back.
4) Need to set the CPU/NB voltage. Auto will set it at 1.55-1.58v. You can only set it at -0.1 voltage at 2200 and -0.175 at 2000.
5) With the beta Bios we have native DDR3 1866.

Test Results on the FX-8320
1) Bios 3029 will see it without any problems.
2) I hit the mobo wall at 4.0ghz with 1.4v and this means the cpu is not throttling back. Anything higher it will throttle the CPU.

I think the beta bios are really for the FX-8120/8150/8320/8350.

This is what I got on my test results on this rig. I hope it will help people.

do you have AOD installed ?

if you go past 1.4125 on AOD, I noticed it down clocks to 2.8ghz.
You have to change the turbo core voltage all the way up to past where your setting it or else it will keep down clocking to 2.8ghz for no reason.
it's sort like what APM setting does on the newer AM3+ bios for the FX chips.

I think there was another way of doing it too. something with the green dot on the right hand side of AOD turn it red and exit, reopen and turn it back to green, I think was the other way to turn it off.

It drops down to 2.8ghz at any sets I do past 4.0ghz. My 8320 can do 4.5ghz with 1.4v on my Sabertooth. I don't have AOD install.

That's a great news!!! Could you please post any screenshots (Prime95, CPU-Z,( HWMonitor)) of it to help the records?

Thanks. Goodbye.

Thanks for the heads up. What do you think the issue is with the 8320 @4Ghz> MoBo should be good for 140w (not sure what a PD @4Ghz pulls but maybe more than MoBo can deliver!). How hot are the Mosfets? maybe aim/mount a small fan. Shame really as i was hoping for 4.5Ghz then it would be a far faster than my X6. If you only got 4 on an 890FX i doubt my GX will put out more (though it HTT clocks like a good un' 327+HTT). Not sure how much a PD @4Ghz will have over my X6 @4.1Ghz perhaps not enough to make the upgrade worth it ($'s wise).

And if you are limited clocking wise that will only hamper the issue. Will drive me nuts imho if the darn thing keeps down clocking itself. Keep at it though buddy:thumb: you're boldly going where few have gone before LMAO!biggrin.gif. Keep us updated with anything else you find/notice as i'm still not totally off the idea just disapointed it only hit the big "4".

One other thing i found with these ASUS M4A's (my bro has the same model as me) is that the thermal interface's between the NB/SB and Mosfet sinks isn't as good as it could be. I removed ALL the sinks off the MoBo and scraped all the pink chewing gum off and replaced with MX.... Something! (2/3) and replaced the Mosfet grey pad with some generic white paste (non conductive) blobbed on all the Mosfets/chips near them. This helped with my bro's MoBo as his was all over the shop and his Mosfet sink/heatpipe wasn't even touching 3/4 of the fets!!

If you still have some issues it maybe worth re doing the TIM's

Good luck:thumb:.

Thanx.

The Heatsink for the VRM is not even warm. I have a 200mm fan blowing air on them. I think 4.0ghz is the limits of the mobo. I can set the voltage higher and it still runs fine, but anything over 4.0ghz and it will throttle back.
Well it is like this on a stress test.
4.7ghz throttle about every 1-2 minutes.
4.6ghz throttle about every 2-3 minutes.
4.5ghz throttle about every 3-4 minutes.
4.4ghz throttle about every 4-5 minutes.
4.3ghz throttle about every 5-6 minutes.
4.2ghz throttle about every 7-8 minutes.
4.1ghz throttle about every 8-9 minutes.
4.0ghz don't throttle.
