redface.gif I thought Frostbite was "too complicated" for anyone but DICE/EA to handle. rolleyes.gif I know Bioware is a subdivision of EA but still.

That wasn't the only reason given. It just seems the cons of releasing mod tools outweigh the pros which is understandable.

I want to see a frostbite 2 Mirrors Edge before anything. tongue.gif

There is no game on the market that offers realistic bullet handling network side, other then Battlefield 3. Traditional games like COD use client vecs (known as hit boxes) and basic algorithms server side to determine if the bullet has gone through that box to equal a hit. I can't say exactly how Battlefield 3's bullet handling works (I know it uses very unique packets) as I haven't reverse engineered its protocol (don't plan on it, its illegal). Tho I am sure you could find documentation about it on the web somewhere. As for sound im one of those who could care less, as long as I don't get any distortion or interference of any type. I haven't heard of anyone having sound problems with Battlefield 3 so I doubt there is any concern. Of course all three are equally important, but to most of us game physics and how real the game looks is #1 priority. I mean pacman had the worst sound effects ever, but it still was a great game.

Bullet drop is nothing special in a video game. It's been in all BattleField games in fact since BattleField 1942. The method is called projectile, and is used in other games as well like BorderLands 2. Really nothing special about it in fact as it's been used for almost a decade at least. The netcode is absolutely lazy, they used a client sided verification with no verification server sided. Absolutely beyond me how people actually think this method is good.

Sound, you don't care about the sound as long as it doesn't distort or there's no interference. Directional sound is rubbish to say the least. The fact that I can knife people in this game because the directional sound is so bad, is rather hilarious. It's definitely not my equipment either as I'm not the only one who thinks the directional sound is bad. A quick google search will reveal that everyone agrees on how bad the directional sound is in this game compared to previous BattleField games. BattleField 2 is actually a perfect example, and the last BattleField game that had exceptional directional sound.

I'm not a huge fan of the Crysis 3 engine, but man its miles better than FrostBite 2.

What cons are there to releasing mod tools/sdk tools?

Look at other games that release them and tell me it's a con. It's funny how a decent portion of DICE is made up of developers who got hired due to mod tools/sdk tools. (Desert Combat)

Reading comprehension fail, try again please. I said visuals mean jack-all in MASS EFFECT. And then I explained why Frostbyte 2 would be a horrible choice anyway and if they absolutely HAD to upgrade the engine, use anything else but Frostbyte 2.

Wait there's another mass effect?

meh.

The ME3 port sucked balls. The game was alright but I'd really wish they'd go back to the ME1 roots.

FB2 is an amazing engine when it's used properly (i.e not BF3).

That's exactly what i ment smile.gif

i'd be fine going back to ME1's engine state if it ment the story telling, character interaction, conversations and scope of the game (ME1 felt HUGH compared to the other 2) was as good as the likes of ME1, KotoR, and Neverwinter Nights then i could deal with it easily, if they could do all that on FB2 without going over board on the fancies then even better

Alas i think it'll just follow ME3 being dumbed down and 'simple' so it'll appeal to what they call 'a larger audience' even though such audience probably had no real interest in a game like Mass Effect

But why does teh engine matter if the story is crap, they lie about DLC on disc, and deny deny deny until they realize they wanted to milk you for more money so they threw out a new ending? I mean is anyone really gonna buy ME4 right away? Thats a big gamble to take. I mean really anyone who played the dragon ages games or the earlier ME games should really not trust bioware and never trust EA. EA has ruined more games than I care to remember and I wont even buy their games on steam deals anymore because of it. BF3 was a terrible cash grab as well, what is it $250 for all the DLC?

EA cares about stockholders over gamers by a massive amount.
EA only fixed ME3 to milk the franchise more after seeing the reaction that people would fight for a game, and dollars flashed in their eyes so they made a decent ending.

Im most upset about deadspace and dragon age which had massive potential to be great games. But cant forget about Rare or Westwood...

I'm curious as to what about the ME3 "port" sucked? Besides, obviously, most of the low-res textures (plenty of very hi-res texture mods exist thanks to our wonderful PC community), but other than that the game ran smooth as. The ME2 port runs smooth as too. ME1 for PC is something entirely different though and I don't think was optimised terribly well. For the most part I think Bioware did a good job of trimming a lot of the useless fat from ME1, although there are a couple of things that I miss.

I'd like to see destructible environments utilized in the next installment. That's one of my favorite game-play/graphical features.
