Nice cooler, keeps core temps very cool. VRM heatsink is not the best. And the memory chips are passively cooled with air only, a minus imo.

All in all it's a great card and I have no doubt you'll get 1250Mhz out of that beast. I got 1338Mhz on air game stable and on water, well look at my sig 3dmark11 score for the gtx680.

The Asus coolers are pretty good, but customer support is getting mediocre. Consider EVGA for world class customer support and warranty.

However, the 7970 GHz Edition is doing amazingly well, especially with the new 12.11 drivers, and is beating the 680 pretty handily. Maybe look at the Sapphire GHz edition or the Gigabyte Windforce GHz edition. You'd get better performance at a lower price.

Can't really go wrong with either. thumb.gif

Id wait for the new Asus GTX 680 4GB Version, Even though the Top version gets higher clocks from the manufacture. Hardware canucks got a nice review on it too, google it. On the other hand Its a great card and if you dont plan to SLI and the 3 Slots dont matter ( or ur motherboard can support 2 if you please ) I see as it a solid card.

Go with the 7970. It is the faster card and can be had for cheaper.

If you decide on Nvidia, get a 670 instead. The Asus 680 is voltage locked and will require a physical volt mod to enable higher voltage. Only 680 that is worth it is the Lightning 680 which is the only voltage unlocked Kepler.

If you decide to buy NVIDIA, go with 680 Lightning, it's the only Kepler Card with TRUE UN-Locked Voltage + unmatched build quality...

but ASUS cooler is pretty good, but their customer support is horrible from what I've heard so far...( I think that things only happen only on my country, but I'm wrong)...smile.gif

if you want to choose AMD, I will suggest Matrix Platinum, or a Lightning from MSI.

I'm with the others saying a 670 is the better card price and performance, but if you're fixated on a 680 the only choice would be the MSI lightning and it shouldn't even be a debate unless you get a massive deal on another 680.

Better avg clocks from most lightnings vs the others.

Voltage control more so than other cards.

Cooler than most cards probably save the Top so Asus does win this at the cost of a third slot unless you get one of the new double slot ones.

I don't think it's too close, the lightning is the better card since the price is so close.
