And maybe spend a bit more for a 1gb 7850. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150617. IMO

Already stretching budget to the max, 7770 will do great for now specially with the new 12.11 they are good on this card.

For the $$ though, this would perform better than the 970/athlon combo:
CPU: Pentium G860 for $75
Mobo: ASRock H77M LGA 1155 $70
$5 difference for better performance and much lower power consumption.

Thanks for the feedback, guys!! I'll have to look into this. I wasn't dead-set on my build, especially if I can get better performance for less! Thumbs up for you both thumb.gifthumb.gif

Dimaggio1103: As far as I'm aware, Athlon II x4 640s can be had for $5 less right now than that Athlon II x3.

OP: If the features of 900 series chipsets like SATAIII and USB3 and UEFI are not important to you, you can save by grabbing a GA-78LMT-USB3 for $63 shipped and you might be able to siphon those savings (as well as the $5 above) towards getting an even better video card: the GTX 650 Ti. Although the 760G chipset is a bit worse for overclocking than the 970, I can't imagine you'll get that far overclocking anyway so long as you've got generic DDR3-1333 memory and its inflexibility under your choices.

I was looking into the Pentium G860 BadWrench recommended...Will the Athlon II x4 640s get me better performance?

I was looking for USB3, because I'll be using a 1TB external to hold all of the roms. Not as efficient as an internal, I know, but cheaper (a friend of mine is giving me a good deal on it). As for UEFI, it's not as big of a concern. I don't mind patiently waiting while the OS boots up. I am, however, looking for SATA 6gb/s support.

In regards to the memory, would I get significantly better overclocked performance from something like this vs. the ram Dimaggio suggests?
Agreed with everyone else the PSU needs to be exchanged with the CX430.

From looking at OP..

Gigabyte/ASUS board and a CX430W or similar. Might want to try the WonderRAM too thumb.gif

I'd go with the corsair builder series 430 that was suggested before, definitely a solid PSU. As for suggesting other processors if your on a budget id try and stay with the A series APU's because u have the ability to crossfire it with a 6670 (i have a spare 6670 and have been thinking about doing a itx build). Also like Matt said check out the wonder ram ive heard great things about it. I really dont think you'll get the media performance you want out of a athlon unless you get a GPU to build it with. Honestly i use a 6670 in my rig (waiting for a 460 in the mail) and its been great for the price. It plays Borderlands 2, Skyrim, my Emus, and metro 2033 (i have a 3570k so that sure helps) but with a APU and a 6670 id imagine similar if not better performance

Yes, either get the WonderRAM or some fast DDR3 if you aren't happy overclocking. You'll want 1866MHz+ as this helps the intergrated GPU.

The build I suggested with a HD 7770 will far surpass a APU for gaming. For the same amount off cash too.
