[IGN] Call of Duty Black Ops 2 scores a 9.3/10 - Page 9

Snow ( for us in England, at least ) comes around once every year. When he watch the weather forecast, kids and adults alike get all excited for the change in scenery. Hype is building days before any actual snow fall. Then the night the snow is meant to fall, the tension is killing us - will it snow? Won't it snow? Will we go to school in the morning? We go to bed satisfied that there is a high chance of no school the following day. Our excited builds. Then the day awakens, open to the fresh, white blanket of snow which has now engulfed all around us. We go out, high anticipation of the fun we are about to have, throwing snow balls, making forts etc. And it's great, great for the first couple of hours at least. Then, well, then it gets boring, and we remember why we wanted the snow to leave last year, and the year before that....and the year before that. Roads are blocked, cars won't start, airports shut; trains cancelled. Once the hype of it dies down, are we left with? Soggy feet. That's what. Yet, no matter what, people still get excited for it every year, and no doubt, excited people will be out in force this year as the white stuff falls.
And this, in a long winded way, is how I see the Call of Duty franchise right now. The hype for the new game which arises every November builds from around the end of the summer, it's getting earlier every year mind you, and by the time November eventually comes around, people cannot contain their excited at the new features said game will bring. The game drops, people for the first week LOVE it, everyone singing their praises, IGN giving it a 9.3/10, having reviewed it for a maximum of 12 hours. The game is seen as a 'success'. Yet, by the end of Christmas, the game has achieved many flaws, people are left wandering why they bought the game, "Why is that perk in the game?". As the game gets older, more people are going to find exploits to give them the advantage. The game very soon becomes dry, just as the snow melts away after those great first couple of days.
After 6 months, the game is dead, and, worse of all, your feet are wet.
If you actually read all that, thanks. thumb.gif

The problem with that is CoD doesn't just die after 6 months. Minecraft only recently took MW3 as the top spot for most played games on Xbox and the first Black Ops was 4th. People continue to play these games for quite some time after its release and for them, the game is totally worth it. People did get sick of MW3 pretty fast, but the reception for Black Ops 2 has been a lot better than MW3 and it's definitely much more solid. I had a lot of fun even though I only got to play for a little.

All I have to say is that I have fun while playing so, really, that's all that matters. To me, at least.

I mean, you will always have people playing games for a long time, heck, i still play CoD4 as my primary game, however a majority of people, at least that i know, and through youtube videos ( i know, not the best way to judge, but it's the only way) get bored of the recent CODs very quickly. Mw3 was unusually fast, MW2 lasted until the summer, Black ops I, less so, and MW3 was alot shorter, that may just be an anomaly. There is a trend though, we need a new game to take top dog, something which is fresh, a new concept because this FPS modern day shooter has gotten so dull and redone so many times, any new FPS nowadays is just the same.

i know its not the in thing to love COD anymore but this game is very entertaining & i love it. game play is great, MP may not have changed much but who cares? how much more can u do with MP & a shooter. The single player is another great piece to the franchise. I know the engine is not improved much but i take it for what it is... this is not a title i get for beautiful stunning graphics i save that for Crysis, BF3, Skyrim etc.

just bought the PC version today from steam as been playing on my sons 360 for days and can't get enough of it. such a great time.

Your point is made moot by the fact that the three most recent Call Of Dutys (excluding Black Ops 2) are on the top 10 most played xbox live games. Yes, a lot of people got bored of MW3 fast, but as I said, MW3's reception wasn't all that great within the community such as on youtube. I saw a lot of people switch to other games simply because they didn't like MW3. However, reception for Black Ops 2 has been excellent so far, with some of those same people who swore off MW3 claiming BO2 to be the best since CoD4.

I'm not going to criticize anyone for not liking the game, but the fact is Treyarch has done exactly the opposite of what most of you are saying. They brought fresh ideas to the series and gave the community a lot of what they wanted. Black Ops 2 has definitely been the most well thought out of the series. A lot of you that are asking for a change of the core game-play simply want a different game and that's fine. To each their own. Just don't expect CoD to change what makes people enjoy the series.

Well, speaking from personal experience, their games have gotten worse, i haven't played BO2 yet, from what i've seen it is certainly better than MW3 and MW2, and probably BO. It will never be COD4, it isn't anything new; it just works better than the others.

Well that's simply your opinion (which is fine). Many people, including myself, would disagree.

Then why do they dominate sales? Even a ton of PC gamers love it. *looks at Steam global stats
