[Gizmag] MasterCard releases card with LCD display and keyboard - Page 3

Why don't they just make smart phones able to transmit a signal to a CC reader and you can recharge your phone and change the background image of your smart phone and not have to drive up the cost of all your credit cards by putting a battery, screen and keyboard in the 2-6 credit cards many people carry?

A credit card is used to pay for something. That's it.
This is not to say I don't think the tech is cool, but I just don't get the point of changing a card's appearance daily based on mood. tongue.gif

I can just imagine the number of cards which have either a depressing quote or "SWAG ILLEST DOPE" done by teens...
Agreeing with demented this further cements the stupidity of the idea. There is no need to "customize" a CC. You pop it in the teller and back in your wallet, if you're going to flaunt it around you deserved to get robbed by the next yahoo on the street corner.

In 5 more years.... what's a credit card? Do you accept NFC/GoogleWallet/Apple/etc....?

Doesn't really matter. Battery life just has to be slightly longer than when the card expires. I have RSA tokens that last a few years.

2-factor authentication is better than none.

In fact, it's pretty much stupid that the US does not require 2-factor or 2-channel authentication for banking or financial transaction.
Once again...
