I think it probably should because we're on a site called "Overclock.net"... It's a WR, since when are those not news?

Are you high? You're on overclock.net.

If you have nothing to contribute to the discussion, then don't. You're on the wrong site to be complaining about overclocks. Also, your opinion that this is "unimpressive," even if this were a hand picked chip from AMD, is seeded in ignorance. You should be impressed.

It's a world record. Do you not understand what that means?

Okay then, enough with the thread crapping. We're here to discuss the overclock in question not if extreme OCs are newsworthy.

Excuse me for this noob question but: what would a binned CPU have to do with a WR OC on the RAM?

I believe the chips IMC has to be well above average to be able to handle that kind of frequency. (and able to take allot of extra voltage)

First of all, thanks to all for the comments.

Somebody called me to join the party so I did to reply to this comment:

For your information this cpu is the exact same one I used for the Gigabyte Llano Competition in january this year: http://www.gigabyte.com/press-center/news-page.aspx?nid=1088

As I have easy access to hardware due to my job as reviewer at ocaholic to be fair with other people I never use samples nor free hardware for competition. So I bought the processor and the motherboard for the competition on amazon. I have the invoices if somebody want. (True the GeIL memory kit I used back then was a sample I had from GeIL. Regular sample for a review, not cherry handpicked.)

Aka the cpu is retail.

After the few records I set at this competition, C****, A**** and G****** sent me a lot of 3870K I never asked.

I end up with like 15 Llano 3870K cpus. I quickly tried them under cold but none of them could even come close to mine.

Guess why there is no AMD logo on the screenshot ? They dont support me at all. I barely manage to get samples for reviews and I always have them few months after release which is useless.

Almost always had to buy a retail cpu the release day in order to have a review "in time".

That was for the story.

As for the hardware used here:
SSD comes from a weird thing called Little Big Disk from LaCie
Memory comes from G.Skill (they say it's a regular sample but pretty sure it has been handpicked)
Memory pot comes from KPC
Thermal paste comes from GELID
CPU is mine (retail)
Motherboard is mine but Gigabyte supplied me with a second one that why their logo is in the screenshot.
power supply, voodoo graphics card, sata/pci card, cpu pot, monitor, cables are mine.

Ho and yeah the office supplied the toiler paper, this one was handpicked wink.gif

As "Official sponsor" I would say I have GELID, G.Skill, Gigabyte and ASUS who provide me with more samples than the regular ones for reviews.

Excellent score! It's interesting that the "old" FM1 based system is still king when it comes to high memory frequencies. I wish he could have run a few benchmarks at a lower stable clock for us to see the actual performance increase.
