Are you only doing DVDs? If that is the case I definitely would not upgrade...you could dig out an old E6600 and it would do the job in minutes, however, those tools won't make good use of a GPU...so a CPU upgrade will benefit you. I just don't think you will see that much of a benefit...even if you are doing HD content.

And multitasking is really over stated...like right now I have 5 tabs open in firefox, 3 different windows open in IE running three different web applications, Outlook is open, I am running a QTP script, plus office communicator and who knows how many other little taskbar type apps and I don't consider my self to be multitasking right now. In fact I am only using my I5-2540M at about 25% utilization...3GB of 8GB memory usage.

i convert a standard 700mb BRRip/DVDRip to DVDVOB in about 3-5min with my 3770k, 2600k should be in same ballpark, prob min or two slower if anything. id stick with 2600k

3770K or 2600K, whichever you can get a better deal on. The 3770K will be a bit faster, but they are both very similar.
