Is the Corsair H60 Right for Me?

Thread Starter
Okay guys, I'm putting the finishing touches or my build! I am going to OC my i5 3570k to probably somewhere in the 4.1-4.4 GHz so nothing too extreme. The primary reasons I'm looking at the H60 CLC over some of the higher end air coolers (the Frio is also high on my list) is because A) I don't really like having a huge heavy cooler hanging off my motherboard, B) I don't want to be crowding my RAM and impeding air circulation in the small-ish case I'm going with (Corsair 300r), and C) I like the cleaner and less cluttered look (in my opinion). Noise is a factor for me but I doubt there is going to be a whole lot of difference between air and CLC, since both have fans anyway.

So what do you guys think? Given what's important to me (as stated above), is something like the H60 or H70 a solid choice for me over a big air cooler?

You have space for H100?
Temporary i have one in my buid, and when i overclock my i7 3070 at 4.1Ghz the temp in gaming is under 55°...very good for all in one liquid cooling kit..and the price is under 100 euro..
sorry.. i7 3770

How about an H80, or even the new H80i (soon to be released). The H80 is a better version of the H60/70 AIC. I would get the H80 over the other 2 any day. Plus, it will not take up as much space as an H100 (unless that is an option as well).

It has been confirmed that the H100 won't fit in this case unfortunately, but yes I have looked at the H80 as well. I just kind of figured that since I'm not doing any major OC'ing it would be overkill because I assumed it was larger than the H60. Is it the same size as the H60, or at least close to it?

Ehh the H40/60/80/100s fans are really loud IMO, I would try to grab the H80i, it is availible through corsair directly, Or you could always grab some new fans instead. Cooling wise, an H60 should be enough for you, but you still want some different fans.

These fans are good and quiet rad fans

Thanks, Ironman! I'll have to do a little research of H80 fitment, but yes I do intend to get several Corsair fans (at least one for the CPU heatsink or CLC cooler, and at least one extra for the front intake).

Well the new corsair fans are pretty decent. But the ones that come with the original Hydro series are crap. VERY VERY loud and do not make good rad fans. I currently have a H40, H60, H80 and an H100 and the fans were almost all identical and they were all loud. I swapped over to some GT AP-15s and it quieted all of my systems.

The Swiftech helix are a cheaper alternative to the AP-15s. The run a little quieter but are at a much cheaper price.

The H100i and H80i are both using corsair's new fans and are much better and quieter.

Oh, great to hear that you have experience with just about all the Corsair CLC units! Is the H60 going to be at that much of a disadvantage compared to the H80i, after they both have the same fans? It looks like I'd have to do some modification and move the H80i to the front of the case, behind the middle intake fan on the 300r to get the best fit (thus pulling the fresh outside air in through the radiator and leaving little cool air to enter the case).

There will be a slight difference, but since you aren't overclocking too much, you should not notice anything. The H80 has a bigger radiator, so it will cool better, but in your case it should not hinder an OC @ 4.1GHz. If you really want to shoot for 4.4Ghz, you should go with an H80. I would normally just do a traditional radiator mount and mount to the back of the case. You can intake from the back, but make sure you exhaust the top and front and intake from the side(if you have a side fan).

The other difference between the H60 and H80 is that the H80 is a little easier to mount, neither are hard, but the H80 is definitely easier.

Yeah I'd like to mount it in the standard location (pictured below) but it appears that some people are having issues doing this with the 300r case, based on the motherboard they have. Apparently it can have trouble clearing some mobo components. As you can see, even with this one clearing that heatsink it looks like it's mostly covering it up (and this is in a larger case than the 300r). Decisions decisions!
