It probably will be fine, but I'm still not a fan of them, the 660m has enough oomph to get the job done at 1080p, and more so when overclocked.

Neither laptop can even function without a processor.

Doesn't seem like anyone in this thread knows and understands the important role a CPU plays in a computer, seeing as no one has discussed, or even bothered to bring up the processors that lie within this 2 laptops the original poster is having to make a decision between. Yet you all go on and on about the laptops' screens and GPU as if processors were irrelevant or don't even exist.

I'm guessing these are the new laptops utilizing the new GPGPU processing technology for GPUs?

Well just because it's not listed with the two machines here doesn't mean we don't know what's in the machine itself. The Lenovo Y580 has the i7 3610QM. Which is beyond necessary. They could have gotten by with an i5 with ease by this point.

Also, there's currently no laptop to my knowledge that uses an AMD CPU with an Nvidia GPU. At least not one that's "up to date". rolleyes.gif

Seriously?

Its pretty safe to assume that both will have some level of i7 probably a 2670QM, 3720QM or 3610/3630QM.. both of which are MORE than enough to let a 660m or 670m run full bore... I sincerely doubt there will ever be an AMD based APU with an Nvidia GPU... for that matter take a look on newegg and tell me how many notebooks with 660s and 670s have less than an i7 CPU... not many...l not to mention we can look specs up on model numbers that nukefission gave...

hell my 2670 in my m18x lets my 6990s in crossfire run without hesitation... Not to mention nukefission didn't ask about one..

Both are identical I7 quads, 3610QM to be exact.
therefore I didnt discuss them.

1920x1080 isn`t available on either 15.6" models
since I`l be carrying this around I decided on a 15.6 and deal with the lower resolution(current lappy is 1366x768 so I`m not downgrading either)
I`l probably go with the Y580 due to the 660M and local availability

Did you not understand what your own fingers typed? If you don't know what CPU, Ram, or HDD are adequate for your needs then don't hesitate to ask. Running away from a decision you have to make isn't going to help you at all.

While you may treat your own laptop like nothing more than a toy used for playing games, nukefission is actually looking at a laptop for real work: Rendering (I'm assuming that's what "rending" stands for) and coding. For both types of work a quad-core i7 with hyperthreading up to 8 threads will really benefit and is not "MORE than enough".

People like you sure do love to brag about your powerful gaming machines you put so much money into, saying "stupid" right before providing a personal experience that backs up your claim, and running multiple dots between each clause to imply that you're not 100% about your claims.

Nukefission is the one who needs help here, he/she may not understand the importance of the CPU in coding and rendering.

First off, I think nukefission is missing a period or something,

"So I`ve chosen two laptops but I cant decide which
CPU,Ram,HDD are adequate/identical for both so I`m ignoring them, cost is also irrelevent"

He says the CPU, Ram, HDD are adequate/identicle for both, so im IGNORING Them. However, I see how it could be mis-interpreted. But when nukefission clarified himself, you still proceeded to call out nukefission, imglidinhere and myself for not "reading the OP", when it is clear YOU are the one who is reading things wrong.

No... looking up the spec of the notebook, I was able to determine the CPU, and therefore, not an issue.

But both notebooks have an i7 with hyperthreading, and will supply him sufficient power for all of his needs. You're real quick to point out typos, especially when you cant derive nukefissions meaning from his original post, especially AFTER he clarified it.

I dont care about the rest of the forum, its THIS thread I am talking about, Fission figured out the CPU and rest of the components are powerful enough for his needs.

I didn't say "stupid" at the beginning of my "bragging" statement, you changed the text, re-read my post. I always wasn't bragging. I also didn't spend a lot of money for the notebook I got. I was trying to make the point to you, that either CPU will be fine to pair well with the 660m or the 670m, because the CPU will NOT be the limiting factor.

Sorry to go off topic Nuke, I'll stop giving you advice because Bitech has all the "answers"....rolleyes.gif
