Building a work station!

Thread Starter
Hello, I am building a new work station for my mom this winter. I am thinking about getting a conroe system but i am purely AMD guy so i have no idea what to get.

So far, i have P180 and Antec NeoHe 550W on hand. (oh i hope they are compatible)
There is no budget limit but i want to keep it cheap and reasonable for just a work station.

So.. as a novice in building a new computer, i have these in my mind:

Processor:
E6300
should be good enough for simple web browsing, listening to music. My mom works on computer for many hours a day so i want to make it a fairly fast, so i am going Conroe instead of 805.

Mobo:
This i am not sure but i looked at Newegg and found the cheapest one, which is..
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131030
I also heard that P5B has the best performance, and i love Asus. I am going to overclock this machine a little bit to gain some extra speed, because i will be folding on it. I

Rams:
This is the hardest choose...
I don't want an extremely fast and expensive rams and will probably get a 2x512 instead of 2x1Gb. So... I have OCZ, patriot, crucial, buffalo, corsair on my mind. the latency is at 5-5-5-15 for the low cost rams (about 110~150 MSRP) Is it worth spending extra 50 dollar to get a better latency ram? As i said, i am trying to keep the price low and it is used purely as work station. I want to hear some opinions on this matter

Videocard:
Just to put a monitor on.. so i am thinking any kind of 7600's GS or GT just keeping the price low. i am going to wait a while until the G80's lower the prices even more, so this should be the last component i get.

Soundcard:
My mom loves listening to music so i am getting a decent soundcard. This is just a small decision for me, but i take suggestion. I was thinking either audigy 2 ZS, or the x-fi series ones..

Harddrive:
a small Sata will do, if not i might just keep her original harddrive because there are some valuable information in it. I was thinking about raid1 setup for her but it might cost a lot more.

So far i have these. Please correct me if i am wrong or feel free to suggest anything that i am lacking. Thank you for reading and have a great thanksgiving weekend.

I would get the DS3 over the P5B as the P5B is pretty terrible

The 965p-S3 has HD audio and is more than enough for her use. I would not go with the X-Fi. I would also go with a single gig stick of DDR2 as dual channel is a tiny percentage faster and this way you could purchase a second gig when prices drop. If you are intending to overclock this setup and are looking towards longevity then I would go with the Gigabyte 965p-DS3 which has solid capacitors and will lengthen the boards life considerably. This is the only difference btween the S3 and DS3.

Seems like both of you recommended the Gigabyte DS3 over Asus P5B, so i will take that into consideration. Also, Boredom suggested 4-4-4-12 instead of 5-5-5-15. Does this stepping make a big difference (that is worth about 30 dollars)? Lastly, will 7300LE handle Vista well? Spending 60 more dollars, i am thinking about 7600's. How is that?

Thank you for all the answers.

I say get an audigy value or soundblaster live soundcard.. Cheap, but will actually sound much better than onboard....

The G.skill ram voltage says 1.9~2.0 volt but will it post with 1.8V on motherboard?

How has the prices on motherboard been, if it is on the rise, i might as well as buy one now, or i can wait til it drops in price soon.

Last question: Is the 965P-DS3 the best bang for the buck?
