This is what happens when people let DRM become acceptable. It doesn't stop pirates. The only good DRM is no DRM.

Im not sure the insult to the seller thing really flies here. Whats insulting is Valve stole money from me, didnt reply to a support request for 10 days, provides no phone number for customer service, ignores my dispute and then threatens me with a ban while flagging my account and locking the purchase. So now I have no money, no game and the accounts flagged and its all so they could reclaim the money they stole in the first place... My only recourse was to close the dispute, lose my appeal rights with paypal and to be bullied by Valve so they control the outcome.

This is a terrible argument for what the OP is going through... DRM doesn't even have anything to do with this.

The OP made a transaction through Steam expecting to use funds allocated to Steam specifically. Due to lack of full funds he had to use an additional payment source to finish the transaction. The Billing for the transaction failed to use the Steam allocated funding and instead took out the full amount from the secondary payment source.

This could be about a coffe mug, a house, food! DRM has nothing to do with this, it is just a Billing issue.

The OP should of first pushed for action from Steam because that is the Seller and it is the Seller's responsibility to solve any Billing Disputes. If Steam FAILED or to fix the issue, THEN the OP should have gone to Paypal, as it would then technically be a Stop payment because the OP did not want to spend that amount. You only ever get a Bank or Credit Service to "fix" a billing issue when there is a real problem like fraud. It is messy and expensive to revoke payments, lots of players are involved, it is not simple.

OP should continue to update his Steam Ticket and post on the Steam Billing Support Forum to get this issue fixed.

Suggesting Pirating will solve a Billing Dispute is rediculous mad.gif

To be fair DRM does play a part in this though since Valve uses that as leverage against you so you play by their rules or lose everything you have. The fact they use account bans against legitimate transaction disputes is a big problem. They reserve the right to close your account for any reason according to their TOS. If they want to ban or suspended you, theres not a whole lot you can do...

If Valve were a mail order company that sold DRM free games, this wouldnt have been the issue it is right now.

I don't know about that. Looking at how Valve runs the rest of their business, I don't quite get that feel from them. You know they just let their employees work on whatever project they want to. That's why their games are so good, and why HL3 is taking so long tongue.gif.

I get the feeling that they just don't want to handle the day to day steam support, so have set it up in a way that it can run by itself essentially- which means being pretty inflexible.

Yea I don't like that fact at all how they close peoples accounts.
