Yeah Ive wondered how that would turn out if someone were to do that. If Valve decided to ban someones account who spent a ton of money on games and prevents them from accessing the games they paid for I would think the person suing would have some kind of recourse in court against them.

Dont businesses have to agree to paypals dispute resolution process to be able to allow customers this payment method? I still dont understand how its right for Valve to hang something as big as an account ban over your head so they have full control and you do things their way? This wouldnt be an issue if Valve was an online retailer who sold physical discs that werent tied to an online platform like Steam is. Im still firm in what Valve is doing being completely wrong.

Ignorance of ToS is no excuse. You agree to them and therefore must abide whether you read them or not.

That's like assaulting someone and then saying "I didn't know I couldn't assault another human being."

Unfortunately, in our system, legal actions are won by having more money than the other party. It's not about who's wrong or right.

As a side-note, they don't actually "ban" your account. They lock you from using any services or making any more purchases and remove the disputed content. You still have access to all of your single-player games. I'm assuming they don't ever fight disputes, they just refund your purchase amount and lock your account.

The TOS was always available, but you and I both know theyre constantly updated and changing with or without notice. Do you read the long TOS searching for new changes every time they decide to update it? I think the last time I read the full TOS was back in 2004. PayPal as an option didnt exist back then. And we both know that nobody goes over each and every TOS agreement they come across with a magnifying glass.

And its also not reasonable to expect a clause to be in there like PayPal transaction disputes resulting in a ban of your account.

Dispute of any payment results in a locked account. It was probably added after several people abused the payment dispute policies of Paypal and their credit card companies. As stated earlier in the thread, a payment dispute should always be reserved as a last resort. Always attempt to resolve the grievance with the seller before escalating it to that point.

I'm pissed with paypal. It only accepts 3 accounts per credit card, and they screwed my accounts twice, and I closed my account without knowing this. Now I need a new card. Well screw you paypal. I've used Paypal alot, but when I get screwed over because of someone else is the day I walk away.

Twice Paypal, messed up my account and both times they had to close the account. So that was 2/3 strikes that weren't my fault. I'm out. Amazon or nothing now.

you're also wrong, see below why.

Valve's CS has always been alright with me, btw.
opening a dispute was by far the best course of action the OP could have done, regardless of valves ridiculous tos.

you only have 45 days from date of payment to make a dispute.
as already stated here on this thread, it can take months before they will respond to a support request. what happens if they say "nope" or just don't respond?
why do their TOS say you'll get banned/remove/terminated? because if they don't respond within a time frame then the person making the claim will get the money back by default.
this is a very clear way to say "guess what, we don't care about providing you with ANY customer service."
if anything i think paypal should revoke their account and means to accept paypal payments for such bullying within their tos.
personally i would give them 3 business days to fix the mistake, after that, dispute.
just because you guys don't respect your own self, as a customer, you shouldn't sway others to be like you. YOU are why businesses know they can get away with treating you like worthless scum

Realize their point of view. You paid for and downloaded a game and then try to dispute it. That's a red flag to them to halt anything you are doing.

I agree that they should respond to tickets faster (anything over 1 business day is too long in my book), but YOU messed up the checkout process. Give them a chance to fix it before crying fowl.
