Cooler Master mass produces cases so they can make lots of them to fulfill several niches. They have the money, they can do it. DD was a custom case builder (I had their DW21) so they have to appeal to a more general audience rather than a particular segment.
Also, Cooler Master can produce hundreds of cases and can thus have a lower msrp. Where's as DD didn't have that capability so there was a more inherent cost to their cases.
Its hard to compare the two cases your suggesting because they're coming from different companies with different targets, capacities, capital, and goals/targets.
Think of the HAF series like Jeep Wranglers. They're not the prettiest thing in the world but they are specifically designed to do some good (off-road). Now, you can always go with a Grand Cherokee SRT8 for "different" experience (albeit its more expensive
) yet you still have some of the capabilities of the Wrangler while having something different.
