If I were them, I would. As far as we know, they have a deal with Sony for next gen console hardware. Pretty much guaranteeing them business.

They have the APU coming for the PS4 and XBOX 720 right... they should be doing just fine?

Either way I think it was some AMD haters that started making noise.... I careless I run Intel but AMD seems to keep Intel in line on prices thumb.gif

AMD is making good strides for future profit gains, but currently they are struggling for cash. I don't seem them being bought out unless it was for a very good amount of money. I think rather they're looking for ways to get quick cash now so they can stay on course for future profitability.

Are their graphics and CPU divisions still very separate from each other, or are both divisions struggling?

They most certainly would.

There are different types of monopoly's. In a legal context, it doesn't have to be used in the strictest sense to be valid. If the government feels that there is no competition or natural market forces controlling the prices of a product, then they might intervene. The x86 market is a very different market from the ARM market.

However, if AMD were to go under, Intel might very well transfer their license to another company to avoid this. Samsung might be an interesting choice, they might have the infrastructure to really make some interesting chips.
