LOL just look at this. Since 1990, they are almost at the very lowest. How can AMD survive this??

Because the threat is still there, AMD isn't gone. Just because Sandy or Ivy is a better performer than AMD's current lineup, it doesn't mean the AMD chips are terrible and are no competition. Sure, Intel could jack its prices WAY sky-high, but then AMD chips would become an even better price/performance ratio. If AMD is gone, who is left to compete with Intel for x86 chips? The answer is no one, and then Intel could drive the price as high as it wanted to, and there would be nowhere to turn. As it stands now, there is at least an alternative if Intel decided to ratchet up their prices.

Because, as is so hard for a forum full of performance enthusiasts to explain properly, AMD provides an affordable option for people who are limited in budget, which includes the first half of the population in the income demographic. Intel doesn't do that so well, so they are still competing with them in the market, if not in the performance world.

Well AMD is a valid option if one is building a rig on tight budget, say up to ~500 - 600 euros mark. Above that mark it tends to start making more sense to go Intel. Thats for desktops then. AMD also has pretty decent mobile offerings and TBH I would expect quite good chunk of the upcoming Windows 8 x86 tablets to have an AND chip in it. Now dunno whats the panic, but as far as I understand shareholders, especially some funds are kinda emo people and are very easy to drive into panic or get overly enthusiastic about some simple things. That out of the way dunno in reality how good AMD will do - they do seem to be having some difficulty in pulling off stuff of late in x86 segment.

Just like how in 2002 Intel was for sale and everyone was saying the same thing? 1: They are not for sale 2: They will not be bought. 3: Intel would never touch AMD, they are in the same mess Intel was with Pentium 4 line.
1a: AMD is going to be going into the ARM architecture.
2a: AMD is far from irrelevant. Fact > your opinion.
3a: They will not leave, or Intel would have been gone for over half a decade now.

You forgot to mention that the FCC will fine them for having inappropriate names for their architecture arrowheadsmiley.png

Inappropriate? At least they are creative with their naming.

Because AMD is still there with competitive prices.

AMD is a great option for if you are not just a gamer. It's really all just preference. Both sides perform well. I am going AMD because I just do not see why I would need Intel.

That they are staying strong. They need to get into some market to make profit. They have part of the PC market, but that's it. Getting into the console market is good for AMD as well. They will recover from their current situation, it just depends on what happens next. They really need to get into the mobile market, tablets, phones and laptops more as well.

Becuase stock price doesn't have anything to do with cash on hand and operating captial for the most part, what if the stock price was zero and they had a 200b profit ?

what then ?

exactly, stock price in todays market means nothing.
