Sales, quite simply. Stock is more so the company value, and companies rarely proffit from the trade of stock, unless of course they're buying/selling their own inventory which AMD has been pretty clear on not doing (See the title of this article).

And when stocks dip, so does revenue. and by default, operating budget. then your R&D. then your available supply. Stock matters as much as anything else, otherwise it would be a privately owned company to begin with. The money comes from diversity and assets. they take the money from stocks to re invest usually. this gives more money. its a circle.

People are crazy if they think console GPUs are going to save them. Number one we don't even know if that's anything more then a rumor and number two they were already making the GPU's for the number one selling console of the last 6 years (Wii) and the number two (360). Not much changes even if they do end up with a third contract with Sony.

Also consoles will sell less next-gen. With tablets and smartphones it is a virtual gurantee. 3DS/VITA sales falling off a cliff illustrate what's coming pretty well. Plus there is the fact that the entire game industry has been contracting for five years now. And yes I do mean five.

Regardless like I said in the other thread I think AMD going to a big company with cash would be a good thing. More money into future products and better morale for the work force. If saw anything on the horizon that even hinted at AMD being able to pull themselves up maybe I'd be against it but let's be real. They make good graphics chips that don't sell all that great and aren't a factor in the really profitable side of that business and their CPU's are cheap with low volume sales (and slow relative to competition).

If people think HSA is going to change everything within the next 3-4 years I think they're delusional but it's certainly your right to hold onto that.

Wow, you are really not informed. You forgot to include CPU's into your little console area. You do not know that consoles will sell less next gen, and the 3DS and PSVita are actually selling quite well. Please, do research before babbling your rants.

You've got it backwards. generally when revenue dips, stock prices go down. And while stock prices are a good indicator of the company's well-being, the company is not always completely dependent on the price of their stocks. Some people believe this is the case due to all that .com bubble stuff back in the day where stock was generally treated as a substitute for money internally by the companies.

The PS3 looks to be using Trinity.

Yeah man, you've got the right idea, just the wrong way around, The money comes from profft and revenue from sales, and this increases stock value. Plus i'm pretty sure AMD wouldn't be doing stuff that broker firms do (being reinvesting money) they might put it into a bank and let them deal with it, but i strongly doubt they would personally do it.

Yup.

AMD had to run out and buy another company (ATI) just to prolong the inevitable downfall of their CPU line.

Don't get me wrong, AMD is still a good company and they make some good CPU's, but they just need to realize that they will be a niche market filler (and in effect, they have, when they made their announcement a couple months back that shocked the world).

I think that AMD is lying (hence my previous comment) and they are shopping for a buyer. They just don't want to admit it (hence my previous comment) publicly yet.

I think you are stubborn and your ideas are flawed. Intel suffered the same thing. AMD will recover. People need to stop talking without research.

The acquisition of ATI happened in 2006, the same year Intel released their Core 2 chips. Up to that point, AMD had been very competitive and their CPU lines were doing quite well. There is no way anyone thought Intel's chips would take off as fast as they did at that point.

Also most companies don't make acquisitions if they are floundering; liquid assets are needed and used to keep the company afloat at that point.

I think more and more people on this forum are young enough that they weren't involved in PC's when the tables were turned. It's interesting to see people act like Intel chips have always been top dog.
