So what's the verdict?

Hi Team,

In my mind the jury is still out on whether it's worth upgrading to windows 8 for a gaming pc or use the mentality, 'If it ain't broke don't fix it'. Has anyone seen a considerable improvement in overall machine efficiency with games. We already know that it's quicker to boot etc.

Should I take the leap of faith?

This might help you decide:

I would recommend holding off the upgrade until W8 SP1 comes out....

I'll just say this, the performance for me has been equivalent, maybe a small fraction better, BUT, for the price only being $40 it's worth it imo. Waiting until SP1 is a valid idea, however I highly doubt that after Jan 31st the price will be $40 anymore, I feel it will be higher. So whether you upgrade right now or not, it's still a VERY good idea to at least BUY it now and burn the upgrade to a disc to install later on, simply because of the low price.

I'd have to agree with second poster. My experience with windows 8 is the same performance however I have seen benchmark results the say otherwise. You have to remember though this OS hasn't even been out for a month yet.

My suggestion, buy it now (for the promotional price) and when SP 1 comes out and some better video drivers then install. Just do a clean install if you can, it'll save you a big headache.

I have no issues with it, and games are releasing patches if there are issues with it ( I just saw the other day LA Noire released a compatibility patch) and i have encountered no issues at all.

Just a use the start8 application and get your start menu back, its really worth the money and the OS will grow on you. I wouldnt have used it without this application.
