Need laptop suggestions?

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

I'm looking for a laptop to replace my parent's old one. It's a HP dv4 from several years back and is just terrible...overheating all the time, falling apart (literally), poor battery life even with new battery.

What is your maximum budget?
Would like to keep it as low as possible for them...maybe $600 tops? Absolutely no more than 700.

What country are you in?
US of A

What will be the uses of this laptop?
Web surfing, online/offline video playback (including high def stuff)

Do you have brand loyalty or care which brands we select for you?
Really don't like the quality of HP from past experiences. I like dell's stuff...its usually well built and

What screen size do you require?
Anything 14'' or higher they'd probably be happy with

What screen resolution do you require?
Anything higher than 1366x768. They really shouldn't be allowed to make laptops above 10'' with that resolution in this day and age.

Are you looking to buy NEW or would refurbished/recertified/used be okay?
new

How long should the battery last? (Under optimal conditions, no movies/games/heavy internet)
4-5+ hours whilst surfing the web, maybe watching a couple videos. The more the merrier

What games would you like to play with your laptop? And on what settings?
I recently got my dad into FIFA 13', but I think most modern laptops have the ability to play that even with IGPs

What operating system do you need? (if any)
Win 7/8

Is there a certain style of laptop you want? (aluminum, black, gaming, etc.)
Would love to find them a laptop with metal shell as I've had horrible experiences with plastic's durability in the long run

How much hard drive space do you need?
Not much at all. If fact no harddrive is preferred. If it has a small SSD that would be fantastic, I'll probably get them a 128gb one if its not included

Do you need any special hardware? (blue ray, webcam, specialty ports, etc.)
webcam+mic combo. CD/DVD drive isn't needed

Is there anything else we need to know?
Just need to well built, no heat issues, non-crappy resolution

I was thinking about finding them a cheap ultrabook since they seem better build than most laptops, and they have ULV processors so they probably wouldn't have an issue with heat or shortened battery life. I don't really think they'll ever fully utilize a regular voltage mobile cpu. I really haven't been in the laptop tech loop for a while as I don't really like owning them, so I'm not sure what to recommend them
