[Kotaku] Origin Users are Suddenly Getting Hacked a Lot - Page 3

@OP: I have had no issues with my Origin account being hacked, just checked today.

Now, what about ones, that have quite a few hundred dollars of games put into their account and cannot get it back? :/ Stupid to have software controlling your games, especially if you have hundreds or thousands of dollars into it. Senseless.
Edit:
When will you guys learn or realize, using software to control games isn't the way to go. Piracy still happens.

I would *hate* to go back to needing a disc to install all my games. I have 78+ games on my Steam account and just did a complete clean install of Windows 8. If I had 78 games, each of which had 1-10 discs to install I am pretty sure it would take me *weeks* to install all of my games at a leisurely pace (and that was assuming I had kept track of them all... LOLOLOL yeah right), or a terrible day+ of sitting in front of the computer, hitting continue, switching disks, hitting continue, typing in serial numbers, hitting continue, switching discs... etc... etc... etc. As it is, I log into my steam account, hit install on all the games I want, and well... go to Overclock.net and respond to posts about Origin's security woes. For me the minute, and do I mean *minute* chance of my account getting hacked and losing my $1000+ worth of software is far outweighed by the convenience of having all of my serial numbers, and "discs" in one central location, and readily available wherever (and whenever!) I want it.

Don't forgot that those DVD's can be damaged, stolen, or lost. I would say the chance of having an account 100% lost isn't much greater than all of your game dvd's somehow removed from your possession.

I recently was hacked by some Russian dude. Man it was a nightmare! It took two weeks and well over an hour phone call to get my account back. The hacker deleted all my friends and blocked them from the list. Origin was helpful. Of course, they had to integrate me, which I understand. They are following for procedures. The main guy that helped me got really personal and told me story of his Iraq deployment and everything while I waited for him to do his magic.

It was the first truly amazing support call I have ever had. In the end, I got my account back and updated all my information. I asked about 2-step verification and they said the reason they do not do this is because the hacker could use your second email or whatnot to get the account. They were working on a new system that requires all origin accounts to be updated with new passwords.

He got into more details about how it will be more secure. It was really a nice chat with him. He told me that the hacker could not play my bf3 premium because there is a bug with battlelog and changed passwords that require the crew at Dice to update the passwords manually. A downfall bug turned into a lifesaver for me! xD Image if he was using my account and was cheating on it. What was nice at the end of the phone call the support person told me he will personally keep checking on my account to ensure the hacker does not return and will further investigate the player to make sure he can’t access EA servers again.

For being a horrible company their support is amazing. Oh and i forgot i had to use my BF3 cd key, credit card numbers and some old promo codes I had in order to get my account back. I am never throwing away a game's receipt ever again lol. Saved my account.

Either I was hit by a glitch or a bug a few days ago, or it was a clumsy hacker. I started getting kicked out of BF3 servers due to my Origin account was logged in at another computer. I wrote it off as a bug at first, but when it kept occurring, I changed my password.
Now I'm going to be serious about using KeePass.

I don't disagree with ya, but do you really play all those games that you need to install them all after a reformat? Usually you would just install the couple you play alot, no?

Yay, just checked. I haven't been hacked! yet....... sadsmiley.gif

It really irks me that they don't allow characters in the password, I know this was most likely a social engineering scam but still it just makes it more secure to throw in a few extra characters. Only as strong as your weakest link rolleyes.gif
