Will this power supply be enough?

Thread Starter
i7-3770k mildly overclocked
3x EVGA gtx 660ti's
16gb memory
128gb ssd
1tb hard drive

I was looking at the power consumption of these cards, they only pull just under 170w each with the processor mildly overclocked
I was thinking a corsair hx1050 would be enough for it, but im just wondering if that would be okay or should i go with a corsair ax1200?thumb.gif

Thanks

A good 800 watt PSU would be more than enough.

This. Total system power consumption tends to be grossly overestimated.

All that would be needed is a quality-made 650W power supply.  I know how this sounds, so I'll provide proof by showing the 3-way SLi power consumption of a system that has three GTX 670s in it as opposed to three GTX 660 Ti's.  The main reason for this is that I couldn't find a GTX 660 Ti 3-way SLi review that satisfied me.  I prefer the way that Guru3D.com does things, but their GTX 660 Ti reviews only show "Power Efficiency", while their reviews of GTX 670s show the actual power consumption.

So, here it is:  http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/geforce_gtx_670_2_and_3way_sli_review,4.html

With three GTX 670s under full load in their system, their power supply pulled 583W from the wall outlet.  Their CPU was idling, so let's just add 200W even though a more realistic power draw for an overclocked 3770K under full load is about 150W.  So adding 200W makes the PSU pulling 783W from the wall outlet.  Therefore, if the PSU is 85% efficient while pulling 783W from the wall outlet, then that means the system is pulling 665W from the PSU.  Since the GTX 660 Ti has a lower power consumption, I will say that a quality-made 650W power supply would be more than enough.

Although, three GTX 660 Ti's requires six 6-pin PCI-E cables, so I want to help you find some PSUs that meet this minimum requirement of at least six 6-pin PCI-E cables.  Can you order from Newegg?

But Corsair is just a brand name; it's superficial.  It means about as much as the color of the paint on the power supply.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1177728/the-problem-with-a-single-psu-brand

This is just the way it is with power supplies.

Can you order from Scan.co.uk or eBuyer.com?  I want to put together a list of power supplies, but in order to do that I need to use a site that has a power supplies section (unlike Amazon).

Now, even though you cannot order from Newegg, here are all of the PSUs in Newegg's inventory between 600W and 800W that have at least six 6-pin PCI-E cables:  link  This can be helpful in selecting a PSU in the UK because inventories are rather similar.  Also, and again, a quality 650W power supply would be plenty.

However, I will tell you that even if a PSU does not have enough PCI-E cables (like say if it only has 4), then you can still use those Molex to PCI-E adapters even though they are unpleasant to look at.  It takes two Molex power cables to be converted into one PCI-E cable.  So, these adapters have two female Molex connectors going into one male PCI-E connector.

Also, here is a thread that is a list of several quality-made power supplies:
