PS3 outdated already?

correct me if I'm wrong but with the release of the 8800gtx using the g80 chip set and the fact the the PS3 is using a NV47/G70 chip set, dose this not make a 8800gtx sli system compleatly destory a Ps3 as far as processing power goes?

*cough* The G70 is the GPU. Not the main Processor. So yes, in terms of graphics, it could be outdated.

It may completely destroy a PS3, but it's more than triple the price to get A PC with DX10 and a decent processor. As expensive as the PS3 is in console terms, it's still way cheaper than a similarly performing PC.

your point of the price is well taken. If you can't efford a highend PC then ps3 and 360 are a really good deal. One thing I think people overlook is that yes I can get a 360 for $300 and a PC for 1000-2000 and the gfx will be the same. I have a 360playing gears of war, hooked up to a 37" HD flat panel so I'm playing it about as highend as you can get but the interface of the controller makes for some very unacurate fire fights. I find myself overcontroling and missing my targets more than not.

Then I go into the Living room and sit in front of my 32" protron using my Razer copper head with 2000dpi and I drop some dude that is bunnyhopping like a mad man with a head shot from my pistol. and I think to my self WOW this is soooo much more fun.

Sorry I'm a little off the thread point but I am so live with!

Also, remember that a consol is designed just for gaming, so it doesnt have an OS with tuns of background apps to slow it down. Also, since games are writen spesificly for each consol, I would imagen that graphics performance would be quite a bit higher then for a PC game.

Xbox360 has a GPU (Xenos) that is loosely based on R500 (R580 being the X1900XTX) series although its unified shader architecture more closely resembles R600, does this make it outdated? Nope. Just go and play Gears of War and tell me your PC could run it that smoothly without atleast CrossFire or SLI and Conroe.

My point is there are far too many factors to consider to simply state that it is outdated just because the PS3s graphics chip is based on an older design, also remember that the console just launched but Sony couldn't just change the GPU 3 days before launch or something, they had to make the hardware choices many months ago to get dev kits out to the developers and to make sure the PS3 was fully tested before launch.

Right the Xenos has "some" DX10 instructions (like the R600) whereas the RSX has none.

The PS3 graphics will still look good regardless but what looks good is in the eye of the beholder

I can assure you the RSX isnt just any old G70. Its probably been improved on in image quality and overall architecture.

I play Oblivion On my Pc and also have it for my 360 it is soooooo much better on my PC. Higher res, more FPS and mods glore. I do understand that the 360 and PS3 are good systems in there own right but they are just no match for my PC. I have Gears of War but I will by it if they port it to PC and I fully expect it to be a much better game.


The point I was tring to make was that usualy the way it gose is that a PC will surpass the Console for a while, then the consoles make a comback and dominate the PC as far as power gose. This dose not seemed to have happened this time. the new systems are out but they do not surpass a highend gaming rig.

I do play my 360 but only when I'm to lazy to get out of bed.
