for example... the ASRock Extreme 4 which is marketed as being an 8 phase mobo uses a ISL6367 PWM which is 6+1. How do they get 8 from 6? they chop 2 of them dropping it to 4 then use doublers to make it appear as if they have 8. If you checkout Intersil's web site you'll find that the most they have is 6+2 intersil-vrm-product-page
International Rectifier (IR & CHiL) are another story because they are the only ones that offer true 8 phase. check out their current product page, they have three 8 phase chips available. IR PWMs
IR3563A - 8.1 phase
CHL8318 - 8+1 phase
CHL8318-20 - 8+1 phase
and some older ones that I don't think they are still producing but are still found in new mobos.
IR6367 - 6.1
CHL3828 - 7+1
There are a few more but this is for the most part everything. none of the major companies make a 12 phase and ASRock won't say what PWM they are using.
