Asus P8Z68 DELUXE/GEN3 Short/fire?

Thread Starter
Hey all. Earlier tonight, I was enjoying some AC: Revelations when my computer randomly shut off. All seemed ordinary till I saw smoke pouring out the top of my PC and got that ever-so-awful fried electronic smell. I have no clue what caused the fire. I had nothing plugged into the audio port near the fire and had a GTX 460 running a second monitor in the nearest PCI slot. This is the type of area my computer knowledge runs dry in. Any idea as to what caused the problem? Any info would be appreciated. Rig is in my sig with up-to-date specs.

My beloved GTX 460, thing was a trooper. mad.gif

Hey stcawthern,

My name is Scott Billings, with the Asus Customer Loyalty group. I had a couple of our component specialists take a look at the photos you posted, and the prevailing opinion is that your GTX 460 tried pulling too much power through the PCI-E slot, and well you know the results as well as anyone.

However, I ran your case past my supervisor and he agreed we can offer you a discounted rate on a replacement P8Z68 Deluxe/Gen3 board of $100. So if this is something you'd like to do, send me a PM or email, I'll collect a few particulars, and set up the RMA for you.
