We'll see even more peeps going the indie way. Personally I don't think and pretty sure the big 3 don't want to keep increasing the price of their games past 60$ as hand held smart phones and tabs games are exploding and super cheap in comparison in consoles games.

yeah i think "b" games are where its at now. at least that's what my fav game of this generation was (demon's souls). i just can't buy into indie games. it's not just the graphical difference, i don't think such small games can achieve the same depth or balance of gameplay with such small dev teams. yet "a" games get dumbed down/get stupid visual choices forced on them because of the cost involved in them.

games are becoming more like movies. "a" hollywood movies are typically conventional and can't take chances. this is why a lot of my favorite movies are "b" movies (or otherwise small or moderate budget like foreign films)

With that much money on the line, I doubt shareholders would risk untested franchises.
But the thing is, even if you keep beating out sequels/remakes/copies people will still eventually lose interest in it and shareholders will HAVE to risk something new.

So I guess we can expect more developers going out of business next gen if their games flop in sales.

Or maybe this is because development costs are cut down on current gen consoles due to them knowing the hardware so well.... You don't have to develop as much if you know there are methods for X feature(s). Or go the other route, pay licensing for an already amazing engine instead of developing your own code.

Seems like a lot of people take this the wrong way, mainly because they don't understand why development costs are currently low. I bet you could develop an xbox/psx game for a lot less than you can current gen. Oh my, why is that? So much... nvm.

^This. Current gen console development is very streamlined due to the age of the consoles. Next gen console games are not going to be any more expensive to make then current AAA PC games like Max Pain 3, Crysis 3 ect.

If this translates into another double price hike for console games, consoles are done for.

Piracy protection? What will I play then? mad.gif (assuming nobody will find way to crack it)...
$100+ more for games gets close to HW and I would rather buy another SSD or something. But I will be working by then so I guess It won't be that much problem... I would probably spend the $100+ for like GTA 6

Lots of unoptimized console ports inbound. After all, optimizing them costs money rolleyes.gif
