XFX 6990 card for $325 worth it?

Hey guys. I have a guy here from local craigslist who is selling an XFX 6990 for $325. I've bought from this person before and seems like a trustworthy guy. The 6990 comes with all the box and accessories. Is this a good price for this GPU? I will be upgrading it from GTX 570 and pairing it with AMD Phenom II X4 970 Deneb Black Edition.

That's a steal... But your Phenom will bottleneck it.

Would it really bottleneck? I could overclock the phenom to about 4.0ghz. Also, he is willing to bundle a corsair tx950 for $400 for me since I am a returning buyer.I probably will buy both.

Not a good idea. HD 7950 is selling for 300 with 3 free games - Farcry 3, Hitman absolution, Sleeping dogs. HD 7950 is 3 - 5% slower than HD 7970 at same clocks. HD 7950 has much better tesselation and compute performance. With a single GPU you can avoid micro stuttering. and other multi GPU issues like poor CF scaling in few games. Frostbite 2 engine performance (BF3, MOH Warfighter ) is poor on HD 6900 cards.

1920 x 1200

HD 7970 Ghz = HD 7950(1.1 Ghz) - 64
HD 6970 - 31

HD 7950(1.1 Ghz) matches HD 7970 Ghz (1.05 Ghz) and is slightly faster than HD 6970 CF (remember HD 6990 < HD 6970 CF) in most demanding games like BF3, Crysis 2, Batman AC, MOH Warfighter. Get the Sapphire HD 7950 Boost or Gigabyte HD 7950 OC. The HD 7950 even when overclocked will also draw less power and run cooler

Good point. Thanks a lot. I guess I was just trying to buy on impulse since the price is so good. Also, It's not like I'm going to run an eyefinity setup, I just want to be able to max out games and 1900x1080 resolution... I just thought that the price was too good to pass up. I also wanna be able to run the witcher 2 max settings.

speak to HD 7950 users like psyside (Sapphire HD 7950 @ 1150 Mhz) and bruennis (Gigabyte HD 7950 @1280 Mhz) . the smart money is on HD 7950. best price perf and brilliant raw performance.

HD 7950(1.1 Ghz) can run Witcher 2 at 1080p at max settings with ubersampling at avg 40+ fps.

Thanks man. Plus the 7950 also comes with 4 free games, far cry 3, hitman absolution, sleeping dogs, and medal of honor. I don't have any of those games either. Also, for the money, would you prefer a 7970 or 7950? If I just wanna max out games at 1080p should I just go for 7950?

i think on MOH its only a 20% discount. HD 7950(1.1 Ghz) will max out any game at 1080p including Metro 2033, BF3, Crysis 2 and run at 60+ fps . get the gigabyte card. has a better cooler and 3 yr warranty. also get your Phenom II X4 to 4 Ghz . you need all the CPU performance you can get. good luck. thumb.gif

So I went ahead and pulled the trigger and bought this gigabyte 7950, the one that you mentioned.

It comes with 3 games plus I don't have to upgrade my PSU. Thanks a lot for your help man, really appreciate it.
