Where is the Listing for Displays?

Thread Starter

My vote in Displays would go to the Dell U3011 I recently bought. I should've bought this monster years ago!

I think 3x Catleaps would offer better value for the price. Or if you really prefer DELLthen 5x U2312HM's in eyefinity granting you 5400x1920 screen resolution with diagonal of approx 2 meters.

Thanx guys.

As far as GFX power goes - its not that essential to have uber cards in CF for driving such resolutions as long as you are sensible in the settings and dont do stuff you really dont see - like x16 AA and so on. I used in the past 6770 + 5770 crossfire for that, then removed the 5770 and was just on the 6770 for a while waiting for a new card and now I'm running them from a 7870 while 6770 tends to sit idle or drive some auxiliary screens from time to time. Actually the main bottleneck was not the raw GFX power but the amount of vRAM when I was using 6770 as a main gfx card. Well ofc 6770 is itself also blatanlty inadequate for such resolution but if your GFX card runs out of power the performance degrades in a graceful manner and FPS just dropps so low that you kinda notice that its a bit choppy, however, when vRAM runs out you drop straight off the cliff down to somewhere around 3 fps. I'm quite happy with 7870 though, it has 2 GB of vRAM and that seems to be quite enough for driving 10 MP - note however, that due to the size of the screen array I'm not sitting too close to it and as such dont use any AA at all - I just cant tell the difference between 0xAA, 2xAA and 16xAA without looking it up in the settings. My distance is 75 cm to 1m to these displays.

So 5770+6770 CF - pretty decent actually, just have to be careful with some effects that consume larger amounts of vRAM
Just 6770 - that a bit on the weak side TBH. still, by doing settings manually you can get pretty decent results, i.e., ~30 fps in Portal 2 with some eyecandy, ~30 fps in Metro 2033 in DX 9 mode, etc.
7870 - pretty good. You can pull off stuff like Metro 2033 in DX 11 mode at medium settings with playable framerate and older or better optimized engines can max out the sliders. For example, Source engine (Half Life 2, Team Fortress 2, etc) can do ~ 150 FPS with sliders maxed out.

As far as the displays go - if I would start buying them today I would go instead for the 27'' Koreans wink.gif It's just that I started collecting displays before these skyrocketed into fame - atm the cost per pixel is about the same if you get a 1080p DELL or a 1440p Korean one. The initial reply to the OP was just meaning that for ~1000 eur you can get a bit more pixels when going for 5x1 portait eyefinity than going with 30'' 2560x1600, however, you will have to deal with the bezels (not that big deal for me personally) and ofc color space is narrower (8 bit vs 10 bit on the 30'')

Would love to get couple of 27'' Koreans up there as auxiliary displays, but that will have to wait until I get enough funds to be able to afford them.
