Major slow down

Thread Starter
First, I apologize if I'm posting in the wrong spot. I built my pc in my signature about a year and a half ago. Everything was fine , in fact I hadn't used my pc in a couple weeks. Then I tried booting into windows and I got a million errors. Including overclock failure. Even after going back to defaults on my CPU I still go errors. I tried everything to fix it and finally just reinstalled windows.

Now my pc boots up into windows but it crawls, I mean I click on Firefox and it take like 45 seconds to open up. Doesn't anyone know what this could be? I was thinking it was my CPU fried but now I'm thinking maybe it's my SSD drive broken?

Not really sure what could be messed up , that would slow my system to a crawl and yet still technically work. Any help would be appreciated.

maybe dust build up? I would take it apart and clean it up good. Then check all connections. Do that and then run the windows sysyem bench and see if it lowers the scores.

If your SSD was broken, you probably won't be able to run Windows. If you ask me, I would think that your registry is filled or there are many unnecessary processes going on. Check your processes by pressing ALT+CTRL+DEL and see if anything is using up large amounts of power. You might also try defragmenting. It makes a large difference. Also, I recommend that you use these programs: CCleaner and Defraggler

One will clear your registry, empty your temporary files, and free up some space on your drive. The other is a really good defragmentation program. If none of this works, you may need to reinstall your operating system. Just like above, you should definitely clean your system as well.

Thanks for the reply. I did use ccleaner all the time, but I actually wound up reinstalling windows so I have nothing running and its still crawling along.

To give everyone an example. I installed convertxdvd, which i use to made dvds . When it is in the encoding phase, i used to get around 450fps avg. Right now im encoding a movie i just downloaded and its at 197fps. So something is not working properly. In device manager in windows it sees 12 cores and all are working properly. I'm just fed up. Gonna take a break from it and come back so i dont smash everything to pieces lol. Gonna have to play call of duty on my xbox. Really pi$$ed off at that considering my gaming rig i have and can't even use..

Dust could really slow it down like that? I'm gonna try what you said, and just unhook everything and hook it back up again. see what happens..

Could there be something messed up in my bios? I checked it and everything appears to be normal. Im just curious because I did get a overclock failure error when it attempted to post to windows prior to all hell breaking loose.

Try flashing your BIOS. Maybe you have a weird setting that is killing your sata 3 port. From the sound of things I can pretty much guarantee that the problem is your mobo.

If you haven't used your computer in a while, then I doubt that anything is broken.
Have you had your computer plugged in the entire time?
Was there any power surges or anything within those few weeks?

If i had to guess what was wrong, your motherboard is shot.
