[Build Log] Vamp

Thread Starter
Ok guys, this will be my first build since joining this community. (p.s. glad to be here)

first off, a little introduction to my ideas biggrin.gif

firstly this will be my first theme based build. Titled "Vamp" i will be basing everything around 3 main colours as best i can: White, Black and Red. i want to keep the white very hospital glossy white and the Red will be predominantly with the water cooling setup and will try get this as close to either blood red or the red from the resident evil logo. I am currently having a Logo designed to go on the none windowed side panel with vinyl to finalize the build.

I will be using this build mainly for Arma 3 and DayZ other games i will be playing such as League of Legends, World of Warcraft, Call of Duty series mainly Black Ops 2.

Water cooling:

I'm aiming for a simple tidy loop that focus's on flow.

I will have a Bay Res which leads to a pump directly behind which will be visible mounted just to the right of the Motherboard the loop will then lead from the pump to the CPU and from the CPU up to a 360 Rad in the roof. i will be modding the roof of the Stryker to fit the 360 Rad as at stock it accommodates a 240mm Rad. The Barb end of the Rad will be at the Rear end of the case. the loop will then come from the 360mm rad down to the SLI GPU's entering the SLI waterblock bridge. after exiting the GPU's i will have a "Q" fitting so that i can have a drain port at the lowest point of the loop, the "Q" fitting will have 2 straight fittings on either side to maximize flow. the top outlet will have a stopper and the bottom outlet will also have a straight fitting to fit a small section of tubing that i can lift outside of the case when opened for draining, it will also have a stopper or fill/drain fitting for the use of draining. from the "Q" fitting the loop will then head into a 240mm Rad in the bottom of the case. from the 240mm rad the loop will return up to the Bay Res.

I haven't yet decided if i will include a flow meter yet, and this may all come down to need over want and also budget. a discussion on this would be great smile.gif

Why are you getting 2 670's?

It would be more efficient, and you'd get better performance from a 680 or even a 690, for less heat and power consumption. The RAM is also overkill, unless you plan to make programs and run them across multiple virtual machines at the same time. For gaming, 8 GB is more than enough, and with your tasks, you can slap me if you ever go over 6 GB of use doing normal stuff, such as gaming, rendering a video, and skyping all at the same time. And DDR-3 1600 is more than enough speed, if you go over it, you won't really notice a difference.

But cool build so far, if you change somethings you'll save some money (which you can use to pay student loans? lol) and not lose any performance.

i'm getting 670 FTW edition's from EVGA much more cost effective against a 680. and 690 is out of my budget. i'm getting 1 in january and one in april. and i'm mainly building it the way i have for aesthetics. i have chosen that RAM cause it will come in full use when rendering in C4D and Vegas. i know this from experiance. as for student loans. if i don't spend it on my build it will go towards drink and pizza >.<<br />
thanks for your input anyway mate smile.gif

I use Vegas and Cinema 4D. Been using Vegas 9,10,11 and 12, and they have never gone over 3 GB use when rendering. As for C4D, it doesn't go over 3.5 GB when rendering anything. Many mobo's don't even support support over 1600 MHz RAM without overclocking it, and looking at your's, it only supports up to 1600 on stock.

But trust me, even if you don't take this advice you'll see it if after using your PC for probably 3 hours. Your room temperature and power bill will be much lower by getting only 1 GPU. My PC room easily gets to 25C when the normal room temp is 20C after 30 minutes of gaming (Saints Row 3, Minecraft, GTA 4, anything basically). It's an ASUS 7850, and it has the best cooling out of any 7850.

If you listen to some of these suggestions, I'm certain you'll be happier with this build in the future.

But on another topic, how high do you plan to OC the CPU on the water cooling? I've seen some of those chips clocked to 5.1 GHz with temps barely reaching 70C.

deffo keeping my plan how it is. can't afford a 680. and the two 670's will out perform it and look nicer. as for the RAM it looks sexy and matches the theme, and it's thus future proof for my next build when mobo's will support it. and my mate's comp renders C4D on some high settings. goes way over what your's is consuming :S

as for the OC i wan't 5Ghz for joining the clubs and for some benching. and my 24/7 will be 4.5-4.8 GhZ depending on temps and vCore

my build won't be fully finished till april anyway. 2 segments of loan to finalize it. but thats the way i want this system smile.gif

UPDATE:

i'm considering a fan controller. what i wan't to do is have all the fans from the 360mm rad on 1 channel the 240mm rad fans on another. drop the top front fan from the front of the storm stryker and put it on the lower HDD dock at the back. and have both the front fans and the rear exaust fan on another channel, i then wan't to have my pump on another channel.

firstly is it okay to have an 18w pump on a fan controller. secondly can anyone reccomend a fan controller to fit what i need.

currently i'm looking at this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BB-004-LP&groupid=701&catid=2331&subcat=189

however there is a review on there saying there is an issue with light from the LCD display seeping from the top between it and the upper 5.25" bay, which for my would ruin the look of my build D:

what do people think?

I use this fan controller -

30 watts per channel + it has a stealth look and its quality -

http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=36_48&products_id=30058

If you need a display then consider the Bitfenix Recon 5 but it only comes with 10 watts per channel -

Also great build list and i also have dual 670 FTW's but under water.
