Fun yes, but seriously, considering the number of out of shape computer geeks, who would want to gester for 8-16 hours a day? wheee.gif

I'll be getting W8 down the line soon enough. I mean, it's just $40 for the digital download version.

Let's hope Leap delivers. If not, I'll get a Logitech Trackpad.

PC gaming is gonna be incredible in the next 50 years.

lol. windows 8 is better for gaming than 7 is. this has already been proven. or are you just doing your normal rounds of throwing around misinformation?

same thing with pc gaming is going to be awesome in 50 years. nobody knows the future. and you sure dont.
Try running DiRT 3 no stuttering in Win8. Oh wait.

Or they should release SP1 already and fix the darn 0x000021a error that won't get fixed unless you reformat and yet will still appear if you don't figure out what driver/app is causing it frown.gif. I really don't care about Metro, but it doesn't bother me and really wanted Windows 8 in my HTPC. But with that error and after 3 re installs I give up for a while.

Maybe it's better to wait for Direct X 12 and compatible video cards then. Hardly any games use Direct X 10 and I've only seen one game that used Direct X 10.1, and I've only seen a handful of video cards that were 10.1 compatible. I don't see what the big deal of some 11.1 features coming to W7. Hopefully Microsoft goes back to the traditional start menu in the next Windows version or at least gives an option to disable the metro UI thumb.gif

I'd use it tho if you can skip metro screen, hotmail login and add a start button.
The hotmail login makes me feel like all of my actions are being watched.
Call me paranoid.

You don't have to use the Hotmail credentials at log on. This website has the procedure:
http://www.howto-connect.com/how-to-add-or-remove-hotmail-or-windows-live-email-account-for-login-in-windows-8/

This does not mean that I care about W8 and whatever environment and OS across devices (PS3, tablet, phone and whatever) MS wants to force on us.

Game wise ... nothing right now.

No games support it now, and there have been no games announced that will require it.

In fact, while there area about 3 dozen games that support DirectX 11, they also support DirectX 9 or 10, I can only think of one game that ONLY supports DirectX 11 but not 9 or 10 ... Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

Crysis 3 will be the next game that requires DirectX 11 and will not support DirectX 9 or 10.

But those 2 games are DirectX 11 ... not DirectX 11.1

The wise move for developers is to develop for the most common denominator, and that surely isn't DX 11.1. They will have to take into account the hardware that consumers have, a lot of them still have DX 10 cards, and some people are on Vista. With Windows XP being more than 10 years old now and new consoles being released next year a faster phasing out phase of Windows XP as a gaming OS will begin, so what will we have ? Three OSes capable of DirectX 11: Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8. Additionally, with many people still holding on to older DX 10 / DX 10.1 cards given the troubled economy, developers will progressively abandon DX 9 and keep DX 10 and DX 11 for many years, with DX 10 being phased out when the DX 10 hardware market share drops below a certain threshold.

As things are, DX 11.1 won't be adopted by many developers, and even those who do, it will always be optional. So, no worries.

Crysis 3, as has been said in a post before mine, will apparently also be able to render in DX 10, but, if they wanted, they could also make it render in DX 9. After all, Cry Engine 3 is able to output code for the three platforms - PC, Xbox 360 and PS 3 at the same time, and we all know what the Xbox 360 version will be rendering in.

You can skip Metro with applications like Start8, which also add the start menu back. And you don't need to use a hotmail account at all to run the OS. You only need it to use certain things like the windows store, messenger, and mail apps.

I agree, while maybe some programmers/developers would love it to be just DirectX 11 or 11.1 ONLY, they are just looking at the small picture (and more importantly, don't control the money). It's the people that control the money (ie their bosses and the bean counters), who will not force a main stream game to be "Windows 8 ONLY".
Not that DirectX 11.1 is now "Windows 8 ONLY", because it appears that, contrary to some of OCN's "experts", DirectX 11.1 is just a revision of DirectX 11, not a "rewrite of the core".
Very much so.
This will pretty much guarantee that many people who do not like the interface in Windows 8, will stay with Windows 7 until Windows 9 ... or possibly longer.
The DirectX 11.1 API is a reworked DirectX 11 vanilla. They had to rewrite a few bits and pieces of the API to accommodate the performance improvements. Tho Microsoft has released a patch for Windows 7, that allows Windows 7 to reap these performance improvements as well. Tho the only possible place Windows 7 may see any visual margin for improvements is in games. That's what makes Windows 8 truly incredible. Whether it be drivers, API, or hardware improvements. The faster graphics performance you have in Windows 8, the faster the OS becomes. Because almost everything visually, is being accelerated through GPU hardware. This is something that AMD has been pointing out to their customers for a long time now, with their APU's and the future of computing. An example is loading a huge text file that has millions of lines of code. When you load it in a OS like Windows 7, it first has to parse the file line by line. This will be no different from Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 8. Tho when it comes time to display the contents of that file, once again the OS relies on CPU cycles to do so. On Windows 8, that's automatically accelerated through GPU hardware. That's why you got quite a few of us running around here going "but Windows 8 is faster" to the people slamming it, saying its worse then Windows 7. In crunching numbers Windows 8 is a tad bit faster. But that's not where you're going to notice the difference, what you're going to notice is how everything visually is backed by DirectX. Don't mean to side track but, yeah its made possible with DirectX. tongue.gif
