eVGA 7600 GT overclock

Thread Starter
Hey all-

Hurrah for post number 1. In short, OCing is out of my league. I just don't ever do it becuase I am afraid my lack of knowledge will cost me in the end.

The problem - FSX (Flight Sim X). It's not really the problem but I want better performance...or just slightly better performance. What I don't know is OC my GPU worth the risk or effort to get my mind around overclocking in general?

Current specs - AMD 4400+ X2 / 7600 GT (evga) / 2 GB ram / 10k Raptio HD

So the specs aren't too bad but those in the Fsim community think my GPU is holding me back the most.

So - 1) Is overclocking a temporary solution worth checking out?
2) I have read the "OC nVidia Cards" section. Is that all there is to it. Clock the core, then the memory?
3) Has anyone had any luck OC'ing their eVGA 7600 GT 256 SLI ?
4) Any tips on getting the performace up or pitfalls to watch out for? Shortcuts? Or should I just follow the tutorial to the letter and hope for the best.

Thanks in advance. Like I noted, I am a complete newb when it comes to this so anything you can added as specifically related to the 7600 GT would be helpful.. (like for example, is it even possible? I see some people saving there are no pipes unlocked etc... what in the heck...)

Thanks

Bman

eVGA 256-P2-N553-AX GeForce 7600GT
256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16

I am not running SLI setup. I have capability (mobo A8N-SLI) but only am running the single card. Sorry for the confusion. No SLI.

I've Overclocked my eVGA 7600GT 256MB easily to around 1750/650 Stable. That's on stock cooling, though.

Dunno about SLi though. It could get hot in there so I'd advice sticking some VF900's on those babys if you want a high overclock.

Yeah don't forget you can always go for a volt mod too if you want some extra juice out of your card

Cool. Was that simply a software mod?
What did you use to do the work ?

And there was noticable change in benchmark scores and gaming?

When I did mine I used Coolbits and a Pencil Volt mod It's very easy, you can find a guide from one Google search.

sweet....looks pretty easy. Just concerned about the risk factor.

Do I need to do the pencil mod along with the software mod? Or is the pencil mod no needed unless I do some voltage mods as well?

Another question - once I get cool bits up and running, do I incrementally increase the speeds and then test on 3Dmark? Is there a specific test or just run the whole test each time I step up the speed?

I assume that I will need to do the pencil mod to increase the voltage to increase the speed to higher levels? Is that the logic?
