Don't want to get into an historical debate, but I'd say AIX and friends are/were not so much "UNIX-like", more like UNIX derivatives, since they didn't just have the "look & feel" of UNIX (like GNU/Linux), but were in fact direct descendants of UNIX.

Yeah, I'm not a *nix expert by any means, but the point being that AIX is included when mentioning *nix.

Indeed. Technical classifications of "UNIXes" aside, *nix is quite a handy umbrella term.
