Strange. One of the posters in the SG09 thread on [H] was using an H70 in a push-pull configuration, and the H70's radiator is even thicker than the H80i's (50mm thick rad vs 38mm).
Here's his post:
I fit the H70 with push pull (two fans) on the back 120mm spot just fine. Plenty of room for it. Admittedly, you block some of the space in front of the 180mm fan, but it's really a non-issue. It's such a small case that the air just diverts around the rad and fans and still moves most of the air in the case. With all the other fans in the case, there is a lot of positive air pressure.
I will post pics after Thanksgiving once I install an internal fan controller. This is a case that has almost nothing for quiet operation so I feel a fan controller to be very necessary. It won't get here until the week after Thanksgiving though.
And here's an image showing the SG09 with Intel's H80 equivalent. It seems like there is plenty of space left over to add a second fan for push-pull.
I tried very hard to get it to fit.
1. the radiator is taller on one side than the other. with the tall side on top, it touches the top of the case and the screw holes don't line up. with the tall side on the bottom, it is blocked by the GPU.
2. even if i could get it mounted, it extends so far into the case that its almost over the CPU. since the tubes are so thick, it seems impossible to bend them enough to get the pump in place on the CPU.
3. I tried installing it without the Pull fan, but it butted up against the mPCIe expansion card on the top of the mobo. other monks won't have this, but that doesn't solve the other problems.
so, I think that even if it COULD be made to fit, it would take a lot more force than I'm willing to put on these components. I invite anyone else to try, but i think a smaller radiator is the only answer. even with another motherboard I think we are talking about very tight tolerances.
even if I removed or relocated the mPCIe card and got it mounted, think the tubes would still be too stiff to bend into place. bear in mind that I have mounted two other manufacturer's 120mm fans and they have fit with the mPCIe thing installed.
