I actually made about five grand on AMD last year. Dumped them around 7 dollars.

I'll consider reinvesting when I, and they, have a better idea of what they are trying to do.

How much under $2?

If I put 10,000 dollars in two weeks ago at AMDs 52 week low, and sold out yesterday at market close, I would have made about 1,150 dollars, after commissions/fees.

TradeKing is one of the cheapest brokers you can find, and offer a pretty competitive feature set for amateurs like us.

However, if I learned anything worthwhile from my degree in finance, it's that you do NOT want to bet against an entire industry of professional traders who spend every waking moment of their lives valuing assets unless you have information that they do not.

Some of the people on this site may very well have technical knowledge and expertise that outclasses most Wall St traders and analysts. And you could, with the correct strategy and time frame, leverage that advantage to make a nice return. But if you are not at least somewhat versed in the basics of finance and trading, or do not have inside information, you are likely to get slaughtered. The human brain is not adapted to work effectively in financial markets (the exact opposite, in fact), so the market is filled with a few talented winners, and many, many unfortunate losers.

I'm still hoping to get a few hundred shares. should have bought it when it was 1.84. but I just set up an etrade account it takes 24hrs to activate. I still have a lot of faith in AMD. WII-U, Xbox 720, and PS4 will all be running AMD Chips. plus AMD is entering the tablet market, teaming with arm to make server chips. despite their lack of income atm I think they are making some really good plays to secure their future.
