I use the HD558 for youtube, podcast, movies and games. LCD-2 for death/black/progressive metal. D5000 for hard rock/metal and Grado SR-325i for alternative and classic rock.

to have a headphone cover rock, movies, games.. 3 out of 4 isn't too bad at all. ask any headphone aficionado.

I find it funny that you would recommend a headphone that is almost as bass light as the AD700s and yet have the audacity to criticize his recommendation.

Let's not even get into the fact that the HD558 is hardly a great use of funds. The 558s would NOT be good for electronic music.

OP would be better suited with Ultrasone Pro 750s and a modmic.

He could tell you it sounds like rainbows and unicorns, does that mean anything to you?

Be careful who you take advice from. That's why listening to headphones yourself is ultimately the best solution.

Don't throw blanket statements like that around. Of course it does. The AD700s are one of the most bassless headphones I've ever heard. Almost anything would be above it. That doesn't make it GOOD in bass extension and impact. The 558s are bass light and no better. This is compared to Bass anemic AD700s.

I think you should buy the Sennheiser HD558 then on your next pay cheque pick up a 3.5mm extension cable to plug into the back of your sound card and tape it down on your desk so you can switch headphones easily then pick up a pair of Ultrasone HFI-580 ($120) they are very bass heavy.

You can get the AKG Q701s for $225 on amazon right now, which is a steal, they rarely drop below $250.
http://www.amazon.com/AKG-Signature-Reference-Class-Headphones-Black/dp/B004444O3W/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1353103026&sr=8-3&keywords=AKG+Q701

They have an excellent sound stage and decent bass for open headphones and are pretty flat so they are great all around headphones for music. They are excellent for gaming due to the sound stage and openness of them. If you want a little more bass impact and less sound stage, go with the Ultrasone Pro 750s Simca recommended.
The Q701s are good headphones, but don't have anywhere near the bass he'd need for electronica. With a 60% music ratio and 40% gaming, I couldn't justify Q701s for his needs.

I guess the 650s or 750s will do. All my music is mp3 format anyway.
