Kommander Keen - Page 3

What a fun thread. How far shall we go back? I forgot about Red Baron, how realstic was that? I don't think I would have made it very long in a biplane battle.

Even now you can find old games on freeware that predate the ones here. Of course Pong had to be the first video game I remember. I still enjoy playing new versions of the old Blockout game. I think I had that on my Atari 5200 rig along with about 30 different games like Asteroids, Joust, Pacman, Missile Command, and Battlezone. All the ones we put hundreds of quarters in arcade machines to play. I still enjoy finding an arcade once in a while. I may get funny looks but I still like the feel of a joystick fits your whole hand and big buttons to push.

Okay, let's go real old-school and start talking about some games that came out before he was born. I'm going Apple ][ on your butts now, boys.

How about Karateka, the first side-scrolling fighting game?

Or Choplifter?

Somebody already mentioned Wolfenstein...I preferred the second one, only because blowing up Hitler was a more satisfying ending than simply escaping the castle.

There was a great little shooter called Threshold that I spent a lot of time playing.

And one of the best games of all time: Archon.

Best PC game of the '90s? DOOM for me, it was my first game lol, I was like four or five when I first played it.

Well, first game played on a computer anyways, I had consoles before that.

Vulcan, I saw a thing about Choplifter on TV, must have been a sequel though because I think it was in the Playstation generation, it was probably on one of those stupid shows on G4/Tech TV or whatever it's called now, but they were making fun of the terrible voice acting I think, this was a few years ago obviously.

I remember this game! Good ol' Windows 3.1x and the DOS games! I was so addicted to this... I remember when I got it out of a bargain bin at some store when I was like 12.

Yes, there were a couple of sequels and/or remakes, I believe. But the original was an old Apple ][ side-scrolling flyer. You had to lift off, fly over to where some hostages were in trouble, land, wait as long as you could for them to board, take off, and fly them back to the landing pad. All while fighters flew by firing missles at you. Very simple conceptually, but pretty fun for its day.
