New laptop for school

Hello everybody, I'm starting school soon and want a pretty basic laptop to work with.
Really all I care about is it having at least an i3 CPU (no AMD please), don't care about ram, hard drive (will replaced with SSD), preferably a low end dedicated GPU(either AMD or Nvidia).
Would like to have good build quality and avoid **** brands like HP, Dell, Acer and such.
Now since it's holiday season and there are deals everywhere I would like to keep the laptop at $500 but preferably $400. I'm partial to Asus but would take other good brands too.

Thanks in advance for any help/advise thumb.gif

1) what country are you in? (I'm going to assume USA)

2) check out slickdeals.net

3) for $500 you could probably get an ivy bridge i5 w/ no dedicated GPU.

4) you're asking a lot for $400-$500 and no HP, Dell, Acer and [such]... what's such? Consider that for most companies, their budget lines are all made by Quanta (it's the world's largest notebook manufacturer that no one has heard of) which makes the budget laptop lines for most major companies, so if you're in the $400-$500 range, I'd grab the best specced laptop you can get for the money (brand allegiance aside, sorry beggars can't be choosers)

Mind explaining why you don't want an AMD processor?

Probably wants the best performance for the price, maybe the option of running Hackintosh?

Hound Lenovo's webstore for a good deal, the U Series should do nicely.

Thank you all for the comments and great suggestions, I did have another questions though and I did some research but haven't been able to find one, I was looking for a place that does custom laptops (ibuypower, cyberpower, sager and such) where I could buy the laptop without a hard drive and OS.

If anyone knows of a place please let me know since I already have an ssd waiting! thumb.gif

AMD A4 laptops are underwhelming at their usual pricing, A6-A8 are better/ much better and usually priced accordingly.

Thanks again for the replies!
I found this Lenovo laptop at a local Fry's Electronics for only 350$!

I'm waiting for Cyber Monday deals tonight though just to see if by any chance I can find anything better biggrin.gif
