3x GTX 680 4GB Performance

Thread Starter
Hello guys,

Ever since ive upgraded to triple monitors ive been getting horrible performance in BF3.

when im playing BF3 MP with surround (5960x1080) im getting alot of stutter and very inconsistient and low GPU usage. When for example something explodes, my GPU usage drop to 25% on all 3 GPU's an giving me very choppy framerates and makes it totally unplayable. Sometimes my framerate sticks to 31 for a while and i have to alt-tab to fix this.
When i turn everything to the LOW preset, i get a very smooth fps with surround and no stutter while the gpu usage is around 35/40% on each card. But on the Ultra preset my fps is around 50 but my GPU utilization is bad with just around 65% avg on each card. mad.gif

In MOH Warfighter when playing with surround im getting good fps .. around 65/80 but it stutters like crazy, and fraps does not detect this.

I think its something related to the Frostbite 2 engine and the Nvidia drivers when playing in surround mode because when i play both games on single screen 1080p its all extremely smooth and no issues at all (except quite low GPU usage in BF3 when playing at 1080p. its hangs around 50% usage on all cards)

Ive tried seriously everything i could to fix this. Ive even mailed Nvidia about this a few days ago but no reply...

This is really frustrating me since ive spent alot of money in my PC.

This issue im having only occur in BF3 and MOHW so i think its frostbite 2 engine related but the nvidia driver causing this.
All other games like max payne 3, dishonored, grand theft auto IV and skyrim work perfectly.

Things i tried:

- Windows reinstall
- Complete BF3 reinstall
- CPU unparking
- Force maximum performance setting in NVIDA CONFIG
- Force Vsync ON or OFF but does not make a difference
- Hyperthreading ON or OFF does not make a difference
- PCI-E 3.0 patch for X79 is applied and its all running on pcie3.0 (checked with GPUz) PCI-E 2.0 runs just as crappy.

I'm using 3x iiyama E2773HDS LED monitors (2D)

ive tried driver 306.23, 306.97, 310.33 and now 310.54 but no fix.

ONLY Nvidia driver 304.48 BETA does the job for me in BF3 and fixes the stutter and low GPU usage, i was getting around 80fps with the ultra preset. However 304.48 is old an does not run well with MOHW and other games that have just been released.

PLEASE SOMEONE, WHAT CAN I DO?

Select "Let the 3D application decide" in Nvidia control panel. Selecting best performance can actually cause lousy gaming video quality.
I run SLI 680s (2GB) at 5760*1080 and the GPU usage is rubbish. This is a known bug and I couldn't tell you if it was Nvidia or Dice tbh. I just know that I see both my GPUs at 70% and lower at times. It doesn't feel stuttery though with Ultra settings (no MSAA). I found the best drivers to be 306.23 for me.

Hopefully we will see a fix soon smile.gif

My res is only 2560x1600 anyhow I get smooth playable FPS with 680 tri-sli, just got done playing for 4hrs non-stop. biggrin.gif Game settings are all on ultra/max the GPU usage is anywhere from 60-95% all depends how intense the fighting is. The new beta drivers were causing crashing so I went back to the last driver 306.97 but llike Gregster said the 306.23 are probably better for bf3.

I've got nearly the same exact problem as you. On difference is I've got a GTX 690. (before you say anything, no the card's memory is not the issue... Low GPU usage, even the Vram isn't maxed.)
Welcome to my painful world OP. BF3 is my #1 game and new Nvidia drivers run like complete crap. THIS IS AN NVIDIA ISSUE THEY HAVEN'T FIXED! Makes me mad too because I spent so much money on 4 670s to get low GPU utilization.

Best drivers that work with my setup is whql 301.xx.

Only thing you can do right now until Nvidia fixes this crap is find the best driver for your setup @ OC your CPU & GPUs as much as possible. Then switch drivers when playing MOHW(I use 310.54) which is semi-stable but gets me huge performance gains with FPS 120-170 Ultra settings FXAA 5760x1080, which is absolutely gorgeous!

HURRY UP NVIDIA!

Don't know how you can't find VRAM being an issue for you, took me 30seconds to hit the VRAM wall with 3x1200P in BF3. Maybe 1080P just creeps below the wall but honestly I doubt it. You've got to be running pretty low settings?

Anyways I have lower than normal GPU usage with new drivers, was getting 45FPS in BF3 before to my surprise and 75% usage on my GPUs but it wasn't choppy by any means like the OP describes. That sounds like a CPU bottleneck, which seems unlikely. Last drivers (310.33) were perfect for me and are what I'll be rolling back to.

These new performance enhancing drivers have been a major let down. Not at all epic like AMDs.

Yeah because single screen is totally the same as surround and you totally need 3-Way SLI for single screen.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

The VRAM usage should be fine for me. in BF3 MP i have seen it at around 2500MB max which should be totally fine.

Last night i talked to the Nvidia live support chat and they made me install driver 304.79 BETA and all the stutter in BF3 and MOHW are fixed.

But still, in BF3 im still having a mix of framedrops and bad GPU usage. And MOHW is running a single card since 304.79 is missing all the latest SLI profiles.

I have filled in alot of driver bugreports to Nvidia, so i hope they will check my issue out and fix it very soon.

I really hope they will fix this.. if not... then im pretty much F'ed.
