Could someone with one of the new MBAs please comment on the quality of the screen? I was almost ready to buy one sight unseen until I read that it came with a TN panel. Now I know that it's supposedly much higher quality than the "race to the bottom" panels that defined last decade's cheap notebooks, but I'm still hesitant. Unlike most people whose comments I've heard, I don't really care about the screen resolution (1440x900 is better than the 1280x800 screen on my current laptop), but life's too short to deal with color shifting. wink.gif Thanks.

I honestly think it looks great. It isn't a retina display so you aren't getting 1600p or anything, but to me, it looks great. If you do however want a retina display, just go for the MacBook Pro, regardless of the price increase. Nothing worse than being stuck with something that costs $1100 and you don't even enjoy it.

So I've been thinking about getting the new 13" when it comes out. I hear it'll have the Iris 5100 (GT3) GPU. However, I loathe OSX. Hate hate hate, but I love the hardware of Macs.

Is there any way to do a clean install of windows? I know about bootcamp where it'll have both, but honestly I'll never use OSX so I don't really need that space taken up.

I would recommend you to get used to the OSX. The only reason why I bought a MacBook is because of the simplicity of the OS. The OS doesn't degrade and grow ancient like Windows. I use Windows on all my desktops but when it comes to my laptops, only OSX. It's just simply faster and 10X better for the mobile hardware.

@OP
Can I get added to the OP?

The boot loader is pretty locked down for Macs, but you might be able to find a way. Bootcamp is still the best option, since it's mostly hassle-free. You can set the size of the partitions when you begin the process.

As for OSX, since I do coding, it's like Linux but with much better UI and with awesome trackpad support and better apps. There are some things like Finder being not as powerful compared to Explorer, and fullscreen mode being completely stupid, but overall, OSX has become my working OS and Windows only for gaming. You get used to the differences eventually.

Yea, I think the UI for OSX is beautiful, no lag whatsoever...

I can see the appeal. Given that I have a desktop with Windows, I've certainly considered purchasing a Mac laptop. I was a little disappointed that Apple didn't improve the resolution on the new Air, although I admit that it makes sense in terms of improving battery life and limiting competition with their 13 inch Macbook Pro. The Pros are just that much more expensive however, I'm not sure I could justify the price. I will be interested to see how Haswell equipped Pros can deal with the retina display. I'm also waiting to see how well the forthcoming Acer S7 is received, though I have no experience with Windows 8.1.

Hmm.. I guess with a 256GB SSD I can do 1/3 OSX, and 2/3 Windows. Oh well it's just storage, I can always mess around with and and reformat if I mess up too badly. Thanks all.
