I say a FX 6300 is a good choice ,but i am not sure the 970A-UD3 is a good choice for FX cpu-s .Maybe version 3.0 is better made ,who knows.

Video card wise i would get a card that has the FC 3 coupon ,nice value in there.

What is your rational for your comment? Seriously. You're dinging a solid budget board that doesn't compromise on overclocking. Give me a better budget board that's in the same price range.
Or just help me understand the argument or knowledge that you have that I'm missing.

I wouldn t buy it again now .thats for sure.
Nothing special about it ,at least the version i own.
Can t select one module of my FX 4100 and overclock it ,can t rise the HT over 2600 from multi ,default it set at 2400MT ,can t go higher than 4,2 Ghz ,random strange behavior of one of the USB 3 controllers ,crappy onboard sound ,slow boot ,2 of the SATA ports are slower for some reason ,CPU throttling at stock and so on.

Well. You don't want to raise HT if I recall overclocking guides I read. You want to leave HT Link at stock because there's no performance benefits except instability.

2 SATA ports slower are probably because there's different controllers. The SATA 3 controller can only support X # of SATA ports.

CPU throttling at stock? Well, sounds like an RMA experience to be had with all the crap you have. On paper the board is great, don't tell people to not get something if it's possibly an anecdotal experience. Check out it out before you give recommendations.

Nope. Don't get it, I say get an AMD card for the money. 7950 will wipe the 660.

I could not find any 7950s below $250, even the HD7870s cost $220+. I've looked at the reviews and at $185 (with coupons + rebate), GTX 660 is a better value.

The 660 is not the 660 Ti. The 660 is another tier below the 7950. I'm not sure where it performs once including overclocking from 7xxx & 6xx.

just click the ilnk:
they go around 250 if you wait.
http://slickdeals.net/newsearch.php?firstonly=1&q=7950

Presently there are no deals for a cheap 7950. Gotta wait when you use slickdeals to pounce on a slickdeal.

well maybe op wants nvidia because adobe premiere and most higher end applications for multimedia only support cuda for gpu acceleration(yeah sad when open cl support is ON the mac side of those applications, cmon now developers, why the hate on windows?) but there was a presentation from adobe that they were developing open cl support for the firepro gpu's, they did a video demo with amd. not too sure if it will support radeon cards though, although they also have open cl support.

Dude ,something from your reply makes me thing you have no idea what you are talking about.
And you also have an Intel rig in your signature so whats with the helpful attitude.

The HT on FX CPU-s increases performance ,yes even for that 4850 i get higher scores ,not huge but a little more.
The CPU throttles because this is how they build the board ,i have to disable APM to get rid of that ,luckely there this option in BIOS
The board simply sucks in spite of the 800 power phases.

Do not recommend things you don t own/use.

It has flaws ,but indeed is version 1.0.Also BIOS revisions take months to get online ,it s like they don t know what to do or they don t give an apple .

I personally would not buy another one to make a build even if it s the latest version .I can get another cheaper one good for stock clocks just fine from another manufacturer (as overclocking sucks ) and not pay the few dollars more on it ,

If there is overclocking to be made with FX then ASUS Cross V is the way ,i hate Asus but this is it ,they are the only ones able to make a board for FX CPU-s.

Maybe people should try their luck (and indeed there is a lot of luck needed) with the cheaper versions of 970 Gigabyte boards like the D3.

I had a 955 with a M4A77TD then I moved to a 970A-UD3, had a 212+ moved to a D14, which you can still see in my rig.
I don't know much about FX, didn't know they the PCI Lanes needed more bandwidth for performance. I know only about the Phenom II architecture which you don't want to touch HT Link.
I used gappo's guide which I found extremely informative.

Do not recommend things you don t own/use.
I'm recommending the board based on my Phenom II, not necessarily FX processors which is why other's expertise on things such as HT Link are helpful for people to read in threads like this since they are a different architecture and the processors benefit from overclocking different things.

I did own it, as I mentioned above and I saw no throttling.

It's probably thermal throttling on your chip or something, I have no idea but the power phases seem to be solid and recommended by xd_1771 who's in the Gigabyte 970a/990x owners thread here: http://www.overclock.net/t/1048912/official-gigabyte-ga-990xa-970a-series-owners-club-help-thread-fx-8350-support-added/0_100

Now who's sounding more unreasonable? Asus is the only legitimate enthusiast board manufacturer? I think you're blinded by your own subjective experience with a seemingly, I can't determine, faulty board.

Have a nice day.

Decided to return the PII X4 955 for a FX-8320. Since I'm not overclocking, hoping the VRMs will hold and the motherboard won't blow up on me. Just to add, GTX 660 Twin Frozr (non ti) at $185 (from newegg) is a great buy. I don't think it's fair to compare it against a HD7950 which is $300 at the egg.

Thanks everyone.

Just to add, GTX 660 Twin Frozr (non ti) at $185 (from newegg) is a great buy. I don't think it's fair to compare it against a HD7950 which is $300 at the egg.

Thanks everyone.

Not at the same price point. Compare it to a 7850 or a 7870 and ... is it better? Not sure.

Nope.

Looks like the 660 is better surprisingly!
