I remember when flash first came out, one of the first things I made was a book with turning pages. I also remember making a similar flash UI for a gov department in QLD for their annual report.

I guess now I should have put a patent on it...

No, he wanted to prove to the world that homeopathy doesn't work, by insisting on a more "natural" treatment for a mild form of cancer, rather than undergoing surgery to remove it.

Also, this patent is likely extremely specific, dealing with the exact algorithm, rather than the actual page turn. They reference, among other things, this article from 2004: http://oreilly.com/javascript/archive/flashhacks.html explaining the page turn animation. Other eReaders that have been employing a similar page turn animation for years are likely safe. Apple is probably just protecting themselves from Chinese knockoffs selling Android phones with an exact clone of iBooks.

I guess my point was not that I was the first, or that I want to chase apple up for royalties - but rather, what they are trying to claim as their own idea is simply a digital reproduction of what has been around since the first page was turned of the first book published.

It is simply stupid to award a patent to something that is the most basic of natural things you do when reading a book - be it online or not.
