Thoughts about 7970 vs 660Ti and something else.

Ok, so ive been having thoughts about buying new stuff for my current rig.

The main purpose of this rig, Multimedia Usage (Photos and videos), Unity3D (hopefully) and as always Gaming (NFS Most Wanted, BF3, Dirt3 and a bunch more).

My Current Set up:

Case: (White) NZXT Phantom Enthusiast Full Tower Case
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 965 3.4Ghz OCed to 4.2Ghz (Black Edition)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100 Liquid Cooler
RAM: Corsair XMS3 Dual Channel 1600 8GB 4x2GB
PSU: Antec True Power 750w
Vid Card: Sapphire HD 5850 Xtreme 1GB 256bit GDDR5

Others:
Mouse: Logitech G500 Gaming Mouse
Mouse Pad: Razer Goliathus Speed Edition (Standard)
Keyboard: Logitech G510 Gaming Keyboard
Mic | Headset: Logitech Clearchat Series / Denon HP700
Monitor: AOC 21.5" LCD LED Monitor
Speakers: Logitech Z523 2.1 Speakers.
Hard Disk: Corsair Force GT 120GB SSD (System) and Seagate 2x1TB (Storage)

So here are the certain parts that came across my mind:

XFX 7970 Double Ds

or

GTX 660Ti
(Any recommended brands?)
2 sets of Corsair Dominator Platinum 8gb (4GBx2) 1600 CL9
Buying another Monitor for dual display.

worst case scenario:

New board and a new CPU. (if ever, what kind?)

Comments and Suggestions would be totally great.

This is a no brainer . With 12.11 drivers HD 7970 Ghz beats GTX 680 significantly. GTX 660 Ti is easily beaten by HD 7950 boost even at stock . Overclocked HD 7950 beats GTX 670 overclocked.

If you want best value for your money get a HD 7950 OC and overclock it. clock for clock HD 7950 is 3 - 5% slower than HD 7970. thumb.gif

the Phenom II X4 at 4.2 Ghz should do pretty well in driving a single HD 7970 or HD 7950. of course a core i5 will be faster . but the games like BF3, Dirt 3 etc at max settings are GPU limited. your cpu will do fine. thumb.gif

Definitely get the 7970, hands down. Even with a small CPU bottleneck, the 7970 will still perform significantly better than the 660 ti.

Actually one of the reasons why i really wanted the Double D's is because of how it looks, true enough that the look of that card would definitely fit the theme of my rig. smile.gif
